Got everything cleaned out under and around the 1960 Single Cab so I can start brake work. Got her lifted on jack stands and rear tires off. Using torque tool to remove axle nut so have to reword torque tool to do so since it is not ready for bus drums. Holes on tool drilled larger so that is done. Need to buy some longer bolts and spacers of some kind so the gears can mesh on the tool and plate that bolts to drum. So, off to the store now as I have none of this stuff handy.

I ordered parts!! Since I "borrowed" all the new parts off my son's 64 trying to get my vert ready for last weekend I had to buy all new brake parts for the 64 again. I ordered the hard & soft lines, wheel cylinders, shoes, drums, adjusters, springs, wheel bearings...all kinds of stuff for it. I also ordered a pair of the Danish heater channels while I was at it. I split my order between Wolfsburg West and CIP1. The WW order should be here next Wednesday.

I have all the new metal and rubber brake lines installed except one that I didn't have. It should be here Monday along with the new rubber plug for the master cylinder. The new master cylinder is in as well. All the fuel line has been replaced with the correct braided fuel line and I use clamps at every connection. I installed two new fuel filters again. I also went ahead and changed the spark plugs (Bosch w8ac) and put on a set of new Bosch 7mm plug wires. I ordered a new dist. cap, point set, rotor and condensor since all I have is later stuff. The new fan belt has been installed as well.

Tomorrow, I may change the oil and adjust the valves but my main goal is to get working headlights, tail lights and brake lights. Turn signals would be nice but not on my list this weekend. I've got a set of old runningboards and a rear bumper that might find their way onto the vert this weekend if I get time. I made a "to do" list and taped it to the side window.

I had a few buddies over today and we thrashed to get our cars ready to roll the 175 miles (each way) to the Lakeland show in the morning.

My 62 vert got bumpers, running boards and trim mostly. It just got a 4" narrowed beam and a whole lot of other new stuff, too. The car has been off the road for many, many years.


My 67 bug got a new steering box and I wanted to change the plugs & wires but I didn't have time to pull the carbs off.

My buddy Tommy's 66 bug got new H4 lights, new exhaust and the valves adjusted

My buddy Clint's 68 Ghia got the valves adjusted.

Been working on my Puck and even hitched her up for the 1st time in about 2 to 3 years and tested her towing. Getting it ready for camping this year. Bearing job seemed to do the job. I did not drive super far but no signs of grease coming out anymore. I have a feeling past owner just did not seat the seal proper and it was on the outside of the axle hub instead of inside. Anyway, so far so good. Gave the Puck it first bath in like 25 years.

Lots more to do but it is usable now. Need to do pop top material sometime and some body work to remove scraps and some dents if I want it to look real purty.

Been on vacation all week. Poor mans vacation. Stayed home but playing mechanic part week. Have my stock Eriba Puck rims all painted now. Will get new tires mounted Saturday and get the new shoes on the Puck by weeks end. Also did started brake work on my 1960 Single Cab. This will be slow as my speeds are slow stop and reverse. hehehe tj

I sold my 62 vert Sunday. It was off the road for about 20 years. I got it back on the road but I wasn't ready to take it to the next level (full restoration). It is now in Miami.

Today is a day of a little of everything. Repainting backsides of Eriba Puck rims after BigO scuffed new paint pretty well. Now backsides look like shit with the paint I did today. Goopy and shitty, but better than bare metal. I am soaking 1960 Drums in Evaporust and cleaning those up. Installed battery in Eriba Puck. Clean some more tools with Evaporust. Smorgboard day! 8-)

Been doing a number of things lately. My Eriba Puck stove is all done so I can cook on it now. I am tinkering with the water tank now. Then I been working on my 73 Thing. Pulled the gas tank, flushed it out, replaced all hoses in the trunk and new filter to gas heater. Adjusted carb today and she drives once again. I need to replace tranny fluid next. tj
