Re: The "Bunker" garage is almost complete! Sorry I've been a little absent here lately guys.
Progress is still happening in the bunker section. We are just working on completing the bookcase door to the tunnel. Whaddya think? Originally I was planning on having a bookcase door, basically just a bookcase on door hinges. I finally calling my carpenter and we got looking at it. The problem was, the opening was just to big to have it swing out and look good. So I suggested a pocket door. Soo.... I DID have this room all sheetrocked and painted. But in order to do this, I tore out the one wall, and had it re-framed out to hold the bookcase http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y51.../bookcase6.jpg Closeup of where we will be mounting all the hardware http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y51.../bookcase5.jpg So the basic idea was, to mount garage door tracking along the top of the concrete wall, then put a 2x4 mounted to a header along the other side. Once we had the track mounted, he took measurements and starded building the bookcase. In the pic below, you can see all the bolts used to mount the wheels to the top of the bookcase. It's some serious hardware... :smash: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y51.../bookcase4.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y51.../bookcase3.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y51.../bookcase2.jpg Being delivered http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y51.../bookcase1.jpg Mounting it took a couple of hours of monkeying around with stuff. Success! http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y51...bookcase10.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y51...bookcase11.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y51...bookcase12.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y51.../bookcase8.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y51.../bookcase9.jpg Took quite a bit of adjusting to get it to close right. We used a gate opening motor. Which is ok.. I was under the impression that it had adjustable speeds, but it turned out that it didn't. So even after the adjusting, it still rocks a little as it opens. But I'm hoping after the final trim work is done that it will tighten up.. Drywall on.. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y51...P1030878-1.jpg |

|
Re: The "Bunker" garage is almost complete! awesome! I bet it will not rock as much when you have "books" on it.

Re: The "Bunker" garage is almost complete! Wow! This is really turning out cool:thumbup:

Re: The "Bunker" garage is almost complete! Hey Utah997...If you want that bookcase to be supercool, you need to get a bust (like in the original Batman series) with the switch inside the bust, to activate it the door.

Re: The "Bunker" garage is almost complete! I was following this build over at AVS when Utah started it. Simply brilliant. Nice touch on the door. :)

Re: The "Bunker" garage is almost complete! How about a track along the bottom of the door. Not on the floor but under the book shelf and back into the cavity. like those extendable drawers...a telescoping track to stabilise the cabinet on its' travel.
Just a thought. |
Re: The "Bunker" garage is almost complete! That is way too cool.

Re: The "Bunker" garage is almost complete! Utah,
Have you thought about putting the bottom of the bookcase on a track? It would probably help reduce the amount of "wobble" back and forth that you were talking about. This is an amazing story and certainly is great to follow. Thank you updating. |
Re: The "Bunker" garage is almost complete! Your whole set up is what kids dream of... Now, a legit question. I was looking at the beams they set into the "pockets" of the concrete wall to set up for the second floor. What set up did they use to pour concrete over the steel beams?

Re: The "Bunker" garage is almost complete! Wow just found this. very very very very very very very very very cool!
Can I criticize? The diamond plating, everywhere, is tacky... And to be less critical and more curious, a Porsche, Ferrari, ...so why the Vette? Plz keep posting, we love seeing it! |
Re: The "Bunker" garage is almost complete! phenomenal!!

Re: The "Bunker" garage is almost complete! :bowdown:I have been through many post here and really think this one is one of the Super Builds.
By any chance had you seen pictures of the garage in a Beverly Hills backyard built underground so the backyard could be saved? The plants, trees and grass were all saved and replaced when the garage was completed. Full of expensive antique cars. Love the build and pictures, thanks for sharing. Nice VET.:) |
