Re: Lets see your workbench

I have a lot of the same plastic boxes, and like them a lot. They are great for organizing hardware.

Re: Welding over Racedeck

I don't know where these comments come from. I weld in my garage all the time, and have managed, somehow, to keep the epoxy floor pretty much intact.

Depending on the welding process, it can be...

Re: Tell us how you got into tools and such

Unlike virtually all of you here, I didn't get the mechanical gene from my father, or uncle.

It was my mother.

She grew up on a farm in upstate New York, and had the "fixit" mentality, which...

Re: Makita or Fein Grinder?

I just got a Makita 4.5" battery-powered grinder as a present, to go with the other Makita 18V tools I have.

Got a chance to use it last weekend on some fiberglass work I was doing. Really a nice...

Re: Show me your race car, hot rod, street rod or specialty vehicle!

For racing, we are running it now in NASA. Their top class is Super Unlimited, which is what it sounds like- you can run pretty much anything with 4 wheels and fenders. No max power, no minimum...

Re: Show me your race car, hot rod, street rod or specialty vehicle!

It's in gelcoat, right out of the mold, with no bodywork. Flat as a flitter, and a class A finish everywhere.

Re: Show me your race car, hot rod, street rod or specialty vehicle!

"Bespoke" means custom, or something fitted to a specific need. And "CNC'd" means they were cut on a computer numerical controlled milling machine. Superlite has two of these milling machines, each...

Re: Show me your race car, hot rod, street rod or specialty vehicle!

This is not mine, but I'm on the team.

We just built this new car, and this weekend was it's first time on the track. At Mid Ohio Sports Car Course, we only got about 15 laps in before a diff...

Re: Matco box

Is it just me, or do these boxes seem way overpriced? Matco, SO, whatever- they all seem so expensive, especially when compared to new Lista boxes, which look like better quality, and have more...

Re: sailboat building in the garage....

I've never seen aluminum used in a lapstrake design before. Fascinating approach in terms of technology for an old design.

That's a lot of welding. At least you are using a MIG for that- I...

Re: Garage Size Denied, Time for Option "B"

I like that design a lot. Cabinet design looks good, and makes good use of the "extra" space you have after the usual parking slots.

Re: Michigan Tandem

What are you planning for insulation in the garage?

Looks like foam would be one logical choice given the design.

Re: Transporting gasoline?

I used to buy my 55 gallon drums of race fuel from a guy that transported them back to his shop tied off in his race hauler.

He never had a problem, of course, but I thought it was bold at the...

Re: The Garagenous Zone

The Razor doesn't have as many builds as the SLC, so there is a smaller ecosphere of knowledge, builders, etc. There is a small group on exocars.net that are building Razors, and they seem like a...

Re: The Garagenous Zone

An update- I am working on the SLC most every day now, and hope to have it done by the end of the year.

Building it the "normal" way would have been so much faster, but I have a very specific...

Re: Another 55 F100 build-Long Term

Just saw this build, and I like it a lot. Some of the things you are going through in your project are familiar to me- lots of ideas, some of which actually survive. :)

Re: Does Chevrolet know the difference???

Irony Alert:

People complaining about misuse of "turbocharging" and "supercharging" that use "motor" when they mean "engine"

Sheesh.

Re: Anyone have a Lista Technician box?

I wasted time looking at the attached link, and saw nothing that would help to understand why you are apparently so attached to your Snap-On stuff.

I'm sure it's fine and all, but the Lista boxes...

Re: "Inappropriate" Daily Drivers

Way back in the 70s, I had a pretty radical Datsun 510. It was caged, lowered (with a fair amount of negative camber in the rear), had a 5-speed, LSD, headwork, Isky cam, headers, dual carbs, and a...

Re: Show your Enclosed Trailer upgrades

I did a lot to my trailer to increase it's utility for a race application. This pic shows the strip door, which allows me to run the AC or heat with the rear door down. It works pretty well.
