Re: The Aerodrome Studio - Machine_Punk

Congrats on front page. One of these days, I will learn how to play with rivets too. Such a neat looking fastener for so many different projects.

Re: Unknown Vintage Vise

I own a Parker 474. That one is marked 449. It definitely looks like a Parker. I would see what size the jaws are. My 474 has 3.75 in. I think Mohawk Dave might know, he is trying to find old Parker...

Re: The VISES of Garage Journal

Nice resto, Mark. I like using these smaller vises that can be found cheap as a platform to experiment with non traditional paint jobs.

Re: CL Vintage Craftsman Vise PA/NJ/NJ

Dang, that's a great deal! If I find one of those, I have plans to put an aircraft inspired paint job on her.

Re: Vise value

Actually, I was thinking same thing outlawmws. I have never seen one like that with cast in pipe jaws. I like these vises, with machinist or stamped steel slide.

Re: Vise value

That appears to be a 3 1/2 you have posted. If it is a stamped steel slide around $40 -$ 60 dollars here in northeast Ohio.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I have had to do that repair also. Glad it was only the igniter and not something more serious.

Re: replacement vise jaws sticker shock

If you can't find the money for new jaws, I'll gladly take the vise off your hands. Price does suck, but so does paying 4 dollars for a gallon of gas. Good vise and new jaws should last you 40 years....

Re: Little old band from Texas

I am not someone who is star struck, but I really would like to see their garages and cars. Matter of fact, it would be cool if they would post here. The problem is others would hound them for...

Re: Columbian vise paint question

Ok, I figured bottom to top to drive them out. The top of both my Columbians appear to have weld or lead covering the pins. Perhaps they were just ground flush. I don't know, but it sure blends in...

Re: Columbian vise paint question

My 504 has curved wording on left side. I did see previous thread, but nothing was resolved. Now if some can shed some light on which way to drive out jaw pins, I'll be able to finish them.

Re: Everything you need to know about bench vises...

It's no deal, you can find better vise made in USA for $75-100.
Japan vises seem to be better then Chinese ones though.

Re: Columbian vise paint question

On another note, do any of the vises guru's have a guess what the M in the polygon mean? My 403 1/2 has curved writing on one side straight on other and this M on everything. Maybe it is a W from...

Re: Columbian vise paint question

I understand about paint wearing off, I was kinda just wondering if they left the factory that way. The paint they used back then does seem to hold up better and probably did not cause any gumming up...

Columbian vise paint question

For those of you that have Columbian vises, was there paint on the slide and handle? I have two old Columbians, a 504 and a 403 1/2, both appear to have original paint and both are painted. I know...

Re: The VISES of Garage Journal

Sorry about the breach of etiquette. It came from an Alcoa plant in Cleveland.
I am pleased to own it.
