Re: Old Pencil Sharpeners

Finally got my pencil sharpener cleaned up and mounted. It was covered in olive drab green paint, which upon removing, stamped into the shavings case I notice "US Property". ...

Re: The VISES of Garage Journal

[QUOTE=freudianfloyd;5753140]Garage sale find.....

Not exactly a valuable vise, and it's a small 3" vise, but I thought it was cool. Seems to be in great shape. Almost no wear at all.

Anybody...

Re: Is there a wood-look Racedeck type product?

Just curious about if the sport tiles will interlock with racedeck tiles? I'm betting no. I bet some interesting designs with wood in one area and regular racedeck in others would look sweet.

Re: My Dad Dropped This Off Today

It will come out, you just have to oil, bang, repeat. I actually had two or three days till mine broke free. I was just being cautious to not break the jaw in the process. You already beat one frozen...

Re: Can you identify this vise?

Reed. Looks like a valve cap or something else sitting on the static jaw. The magnet is also not OEM.

Re: "DaBarn"

I was just working on a black pipe towel holder myself. It looks like you have some plastic on the end, I was working on figuring out how to keep it from free rolling when you are tearing off the...

Re: The VISES of Garage Journal

It's interesting the last couple of pages have shown some love for the Columbian vises. They always seem to take a backseat to Wiltons and Parkers. Hollow jaws and lack of style is usually the...

Re: My Dad Dropped This Off Today

Ok, you are in for a wild ride down into vise 101. The swivel jaw is the static jaw, it has a tapered pin on top, that can be removed to allow it to "swivel" in an arc. This was to allow holding of...

Re: The VISES of Garage Journal

Broken! The dynamic jaw that is. It maybe a columbian, but I would pass in that condition.

Re: The VISES of Garage Journal

If it is the letter "h", then we should start finding more of these "mistake" versions. That vise in question did have the old style screw with the new "R" revised body. This might end up like the...

Re: VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to

That style vise was from the 1960's thru the 70's. Columbian was the maker of the USA version. Columbian made the USA version, unsure if at that time they also had an agreement with a foundry in...

[QUOTE=Outlawmws;5511866]:headscrat

It's a R. The casting wasn't always perfect. I have a 204 1/2 R and the seller listed it as a 204 because the 1/2 was so poorly defined.

Re: Garage Organizational Racks!

Love the font of the drill station as well as the air tools. FWIW, I would have the air tools script bent up, just like the drill station. It seems to get lost, when tools are in place. Different...

Re: 5 Gal bucket handle mods

Drill holes in bucket and run rope with a double fishermen(prusik). Webbing would work also, but probably harder to carry though.

Re: Reed 204 r

It has a spilt ring that you need to back out with a drift. It is used to adjust backlash. There is a set screw on side too

Thanks, the craftsman has a covered screw and is beefer, but similar look. I'm wondering if Columbian made both these vises....

Re: Craftsman 5198 vise restore

The easiest way to get the badge off is to take a Dremel with cut off wheel and cut a slot in the drive rivets that hold it in place. Then simply back out the rivet with slotted screwdriver. Piece of...

Re: The VISES of Garage Journal

Rock island, date stamped on top of beam near the stationary base. My guess is late 40's as mine is 1946. By the way, great price assuming no damage.
