Re: HDMI and Electro Static Discharge?

OK, so what should I do to fix/prevent the issue going forward?

We had a lightning storm today and it blew out my TV. I was walking around unplugging everything and I guess I wasn't fast enough....

I am blowing out my HDMI ports left and right.

This is happening only on the long run 50 foot HDMI cables.

Last weekend we had a bit of lighting, which is normal for Florida.

I lost the HDMI...

Re: Fujitsu mini-split quote too high?

It really is pretty sad these days that no one does a good job anymore. I have used the same AC tech for a decade and I trust him, and I would only let that one tech service my equipment. His...

Re: Fujitsu mini-split quote too high?

It makes me sad to be honest. I think its important to have someone you trust to do the work, and I don't mind paying them to come out and clean/service the unit even when nothing is wrong. Lets be...

Re: Fujitsu mini-split quote too high?

Yeah, we covered it in another thread. After I tracked down the leak it looked like it was dented/knicked when they were making the bends on the end of the evaporator. You could see the scrape, and...

Re: Fujitsu mini-split quote too high?

I don't set the hourly rate, but if that's your hourly rate then that's what you charge.

Doesn't matter how long the install takes, it takes what it takes at the hourly rate.

Its the 2000%...

Re: Fujitsu mini-split quote too high?

That is what I was paying, and that is what I would be paying for future service. I didn't say it was too much or too little.

They work from book time, I don't use them either. Independent...

Re: Fujitsu mini-split quote too high?

That may be the case with the Fujitsu, however the TWO LG units I have bought from them both have full factory warranties. I know for a fact because I have made two claims. One for each of them. ...

Re: Fujitsu mini-split quote too high?

I see people complaining about how much it costs to install a system and I see people saying that these guys need to make a living. I am sorry, but you don't need to charge $2000 to install a...

Re: Building a Mini-Split from a window unit?

I am aware of the stated power. I want to know how much I use it and I am going to put a power meter on it to determine how much use it gets boosting the cooling in my office.

Re: Fujitsu mini-split quote too high?

Yeah, that makes sense. The LG uses a 4 wire 14 ga setup.

I just looked it up. It looked smaller to me.

Re: Fujitsu mini-split quote too high?

Generally its not included, but its just a 5 conductor 18g connector wire. The indoor fan doesn't use much power at all.

Re: Fujitsu mini-split quote too high?

Make sure the unit you are buying is listed on the AHRI website as complying with whatever the requirements are for various rebates, etc. They will have a certificate you can print out for your exact...

Re: Building a Mini-Split from a window unit?

Re: Fujitsu mini-split quote too high?

Right, my experience is that they have one 12/2 line running to the outside unit, and then there is an 18ga control wire that sends power and control to the inside evaporator unit. Depending on...

Re: Fujitsu mini-split quote too high?

Regarding the size, I have a 1.5 ton in my garage and with the large garage doors I should have gone bigger. If its too big, the inverter just slows down the compressor so its not big deal. Its not...

Re: Fujitsu mini-split quote too high?

That seems to be just about TWICE what you should pay for the mini-split. They like to charge more just because they assume you don't know any better.

Here is the 24,000 BTU Fujitsu unit for...

Re: Building a Mini-Split from a window unit?

Well, in this particular case I went and looked at all the AC units at Lowes yesterday and every one on the shelf had R410a fill on the label.

Re: Building a Mini-Split from a window unit?

All the new window units at Lowes have 410a in them.

So I guess its pretty common. I am going to have to add a couple service valves to make this work, but otherwise I shouldn't have to buy...
