It will have batton strips over all the seams once its done. The boards are 1x8" and the battons are 1/2"x2". It is sealed at the bottom, there is a 2x6 between the siding and the concrete.

you are right, there is a flat plate welded inside the box tubing that the bottom of the 6x6 sits on, thus transfering the load to the outer edge of the steel socket.

No, the bottom of the base plate on the 6x6 sits sqaurely on the floor (actualy on top of the plate that is anchored to the cement) All the vertical weight is on the bottom of the socket that is on...

Id say Im at roughly $5-6K, but that includes the $2k for the slab. The roofing was just over $1000. Rough cut lumber is fairly cheap (at least around here) compared to regular KD framing lumber.
