Default Man Down!!

Monday evening i get home from work,When i get out of my truck i step on an uneven spot in the driveway and turn my left ankle! No biggie it hurt but i'm no sissy i can walk it off right? It was still hurting tuesday morning but i stuffed it in my boot and went to work.By the time i got home that night i could barely walk and when i pulled my boot off my ankle was so swollen that it was rolled over my heel on both sides!Long story short i have a high ankle sprain and some torn tendons,I am in a half cast and off work for up to 6 weeks! On the good side we are getting our tax refund thursday so money will be ok.And i'm picking up a new mig welder this weekend so if i can figure out how to keep my foot from catching fire i will have something to while i am off.

Get well soon! I do that crap all too often and have to spend a few days limping while it heals.

I've heard the ankle is among the most painful breaks, and can take up to 2 years to heal fully.

I'd take a sprained ankle/torn tendons over than any day!

Even 2 years to fully heal beats never fully healing. I had the bone completely blown from the base of my thumb, causing it to just hang there. They took a bone graft from my forearm, put pins in it, and 6 months later it was fine (minus a fused joint)

On the other hand, my knees hurt 100% of the time due to MCL and meniscus tears

I did pretty much the same several years ago, including not going to the doctor for 3 days. Mine resulted in an avulsion fracture

My xray looked very much like that picture ! It took over 6 months to heal completely.

Stay off of it as much as you can. I would recommend crutches for the first 2 weeks.

I'd take broken bones over torn ligaments/tendons any day. I've torn a few things that still bother me 5-10 years later. Sure it hurts like hell to break a bone, but bones heal easily.

OP- hopefully that isn't the case for you. I wish you a speedy recovery.

i feel your pain

i've had 2 (known) avulsion fractures in my right ankle. and from the look of xrays and comments that were made by orthopedic specialists at the time, at least 2 or more before that.

one in '86 from a flat track racing accident cost me 10 weeks in several different walking casts. i broke the bottom out of 4 casts, and had the side of one hit with a 16 lb sledgehammer
2nd one in '96 cost me 13 weeks in a brace.

I shattered my ankle, got ran over by a truck, good ole drunk stories! They put it in a soft cast and said to stay off it for a month. I was 21 and didn't listen and was walking all over the next day. Ten years later I still feel the pain every day and my ankle gives out all the time. I sure wish I would have listened to the doctors when it happened.

Hope yours heals better than mine did! And give it time to rest. I can't sit around but I sure wish I would have.

Hope you feel better. I took a spill three weeks ago and my elbow broke my fall. Spilt it wide open. I didn't do anything about. The scab is healling decent, but if I tap it just right, damn it smarts still to this day. Maybe I should have had it looked at, I wonder if I may have cracked it. Oh well, get well soon.

Slipped on some black ice a few years ago, All of me fell on my right foot, heard a loud pop.
Never went to the doctor, probably sprained it. At work the following monday, boss noticed I was limping around, asked if I was constipated.
