Never when I'm working in the shop. Safety is the main reason, and the wife does not want to replace the rings we married with for sentamental reasons.

I wear my ring. It's platinum, and my wife bought it for me with her own money that she worked hard for before we were married. I treasure it.

I'm well aware of the horror stories, and safety issues behind it. The only time I take it off is when working in high voltage switchgear, otherwise it stays on (I'm a master electrician)

I've learned that getting in a hurry causes more accidents than anything, not to mention poor installation practices, and I just won't stand for either.

Should I injure myself due to wearing it, so be it. I'll accept the consequences of my actions, not blame someone else.

Actually, I USED to wear my watch and ring. Then when I saw a picture of a guy who had spanned a set of battery posts with a wrench accidently. The ring heated up and cauterized his finger to the bone. He lost the finger.

I showed the pics to my wife, and she now is very understanding of why I don't normally wear my ring when working on vehicles/welding.

Also on the same note, that's also why I have a plain gold ring, they scratch easier than platinum and titanium would have been cool too. Then the jeweler explained that if they ever have to take your ring off at the hospital, if you're wearing titanium, you're probably gonna lose the finger!!!
Same reason I don't wear mine. I work offshore and we've been showed a few gruesome pictures of torn fingers, ripped flesh, where guys have jumped of a ladder or bench, caught their ring on something, stripped the flesh off the whole finger. :(

I wore mine thru our honeymoon, then believe it or not my mother in law was the one who suggested I not wear it. I've worked with my hands almost 30 years, been married 23 of those. When I retire at the end of April 08 I'll ask my wife for it and see if it still fits. If not I'll have it resized and start wearing it

my grandpa lost his finger falling from a shelfing rack and his wedding band got caught.

He complains he wont ever be able to play the fiddle.

I wear mine most of my the time. I have it tattooed on under a a Titanium wedding band. So if it's off, i'm still branded. She has hers tattooed on as well!

I have been married 28 years this december and I have never worn mine! It gets in the way when I am picking up chicks!

I hate jewelry, I have a hard time even wearing a watch actually.

I have the fuzzy box in my truck and take it off before working on equipment. I have seen what a ring and electrical terminals can do to a co-worker's finger.

LOL!!!! Looks like the bed will be going to the garage and the only ring worn is when the wife just kicked his *** between his ears and is now around his neck:bounce:

Check-out www.titaniumrings.com This is where I got my wedding ring. I got the Extra Hard Aircraft Grade 6-6-2 Titanium. I have worn it for many a work project around the house, but most times I take it off because I am not so much worried about the wear on the ring, but the danger of getting my hand caught and stripping the flesh off of my finger!

Aside from the safety issues -- which I whole-heartedly agree with -- I think it is just plain disrespectful not to wear the ring. Tell me that you would not be upset if your wife decided she did not want to wear her ring. That said, I wear mine 24 hours a day and it is Titanium. It is a very tough metal and it has never been harmed. You don't want to wear it when you're working? Fine, but give your wife the respect of putting it back on for the rest of the time.

Burns from electrical shorts, and falling from ladders, two real good reasons not to wear a ring or other jewelry. Hate to say so, but if you are so stupid as to wear them, you deserve whatever you get. Safety counselors/inspectors at work in industrial jobs, and high school and tech school shop instructors will tell you not to. Too darn easy to avoid getting hurt, losing a finger, etc., by simply taking if off at the beginning of the day, and putting it on when you leave. DUH!

Charles

Thanks for your concern.
I leave mine on. I work with my hands and have never had a problem. Its platinum and I have callouses formed round it so it cant come off anyway.

I have a couple.Been married 3 times and have never worn a ring other than special ocassions.Same with a watch.Don't carry my cell phone at work.I tore the cartiledge that holds the rotator cuff to the bone in my shoulder once when working in a locked out electrical box.I had worked there about 2 weeks and was realizing the last maint guy was a farm mechanic from the 20's(That's cutting him a lot of slack in saying he lacked skill). He had bootlegged 480 into the back of the box and it was not marked.I had the main disconnect locked out and had checked the unit for voltage.A little sweat on my knuckle contacted a hot from the bootlegged line and I yanked my shoulder out.
That was bad enough.None of my wives have liked the fact that I can't wear a ring but all became used to it.Keeping the ring on may be a sign of respect but I respect my ring finger more and my wife by being faithful.

After my wedding, I plan to hang a necklace on the key hook so when I hang up my keys walking into the shop I pick up the necklace and put my wedding band on the necklace and wear it around my neck. Hoping the wife lets me have a titanium band too!

Edit... I am hoping for the Kompressor off titaniumrings.com and theres a shop a weekend trip away from me.

Mikeyr, what kind of watch do you have that lasted that long?
2-tone Stainless and Gold Rolex, it was a 10 year anniversary present from my wife, it looks like hell now but it has never broken and still keeps perfect time, looks like I will die with it on my wrist (hopefully many many decades from now)

I never remove my ring or watch. The Timex watch only comes off to replace the band every few years and to avoid getting deep scratches on the ring I wear blue latex gloves when working on cars. I must say that the gloves are awesome and once you get used to them you'll never even notice that you're wearing them. Just make sure you get the ones meant for working with grease and oil as they seem to hold up better during projects.

I wore the ring the first week I was married. I took it off and never put it back on. I think my wife has the ring in her jewelry box now.

I take mine off when I'm at home. The ring is actually a little too big for me and will fling off if I'm not careful... I'm about 25lbs lighter than I was when I got married. I almost always put the ring on when I leave the house. My father-in-law is a builder and lost his ring probably 30 years ago, never got another one. I guess my wife was used to her Dad not wearing a ring so it doesn't bother her if I don't wear mine around the house.

Mine has been on my finger for 31+ years, never off other than to have it cleaned. Never scratched anything. Had it hang on a door jamb once, had to have it cut off then. There are safety issues, but one must be careful as with all things in life.

Once I started working with a lathe and mill I had to take it off with lots of lube. I couldn't get it back on after that so I leave it in HER jewelry box. She's ok with that because atleast I'll have a finger to put one on once we pick out a larger ring for my big mechanic knuckles!

Been married for 15 years, and pretty much leave the ring on all the time. I will take the watch off when working on the car.

For the first time that I can remember in wearing the ring, I got it caught on the top of a ladder while building the new garage. It really pulled the ring good, and raked up a bit of the hardened skin next to the ring - and it did hurt for a few minutes as well. That's the only time I can remember it REALLY getting in the way.

The watch is a different story all together.

Two rings, two marriages. The second ring is a titanium ring and I would not get one again. It scratches EVERYTHING and leaves silver trails on ceramic things like sinks and tubs. Never take it off, knowing me I would loose it the first time I did.

Been a paid wrench of one kind or another since 1974. There seems to be a common theme in getting hurt with a ring on. Ladders. So far my only close call was slipping on a wood ladder and my first time around ring (Gold) caught on a loose rivet head but popped off the rivet before my finger was pulled off or apart. If I were not married I would never wear any rings or watches.

Since I've worked in a machine shop all my life basically I don't wear rings at all. When I got married I had explained to my wife that wearing a ring could cost me a finger or worse. At first it bothered her a little and I wore it on weekends or vacations, but after a year or so I stopped wearing it altogether. To tell the truth I don't even know for sure where it is at now. I hope it is in her jewelery box.

A quick wrap of tape can negate any ring-snagging effects. If you're not wearing a three-story rock encrusted abomination, it's no big deal to work with it on.

I do wear mine, but I also can't get it off my finger. It is titanium and it will scratch anything quite easily.. and mine is dulled some with scratches on it.. gives it character.

Never off for more than a minute since marriage. White gold, beat to death and dull (like me).

Titanium? That sounds cool!

does it get in the way when working on cars.

Will a white gold ring scratch the paint or aluminum surfaces If not careful?

What about titanium ?

One of the first things they teach you in auto classes is, no jewelry while working on cars. Period. No rings, no bracelets, no necklaces, no pony tails, no loose shirt tails or sleeves, no anything that can short electrically or get caught in moving parts. :shocking:

Nope; no jewelry of any kind. Too many opportunities to get hurt real bad BTDT. I wore my wedding ring for the first few years, but after getting my left hand mashed, and having the presence of mind to pull my glove off, grab a pair of channellocks and squeeze the flattened ring back round enough to get it off before the swelling got too bad, we decided it was too much of a hazard. Been 43 years, now, and no woman has ever managed to snag me away from SWMBO, just because I wasn't wearing a ring. Wife quit wearing hers when she started to develop RA, and her knuckles started swelling and getting deformed.

Robbers hold up Jackson antique store, fire at owner

By Kathleen Baydala
[email protected]

Jackson police are searching for two men who reportedly robbed and shot at a Jackson store owner this morning.

The robbery occurred at the Antique Market on North State Street after 10 a.m.

The suspects asked to see a coin collection. Then, one of the men pointed a handgun at the owner’s head and demanded money.

Even though the store owner complied, the suspect fired a shot, said Jackson police spokesman Sgt. Jeffery Scott.

“The bullet changed paths after it struck a wedding band the store owner was wearing,” Scott said. “The store owner sustained nonlife-threatening injuries as a result of the attack.”

Scott did not name the store owner but did say the owner reported the suspects stole between $6,000 and $8,000.

One suspect was described as middle-aged, tall and slender. He was wearing a dark-colored coat. The other was described as short and stocky and wearing a dark-colored shirt.

Anyone with information about this case should contact the Jackson Police Department at (601) 960-1234.
