How OCD are you about color?

Are you OCD about your tools generally being the same color? Do they match your box? I'd like to see some pictures of people who are ******** like that. As I upgrade my tool set at work to truck brand and prepare for a new box, I'd like to get some ideas.

lol....GUILTY here!!! both my box and cart are orange, all my hard handled ratchets either have orange hard handles or will be receiving them. About to get my truck guy order black/orange comfort grips for all my red/black handles. Have almost all the orange hard handle SO ratcheting screwdrivers (missing t-handle stubby), orange prybars, orange hammers, scrapers, picks, mini screwdrivers, soft handle screwdrivers, orange hard handled torx set, test light, adjustable wrenches, .....see a pattern developing here??

I'll see if I can snap a couple pics and post them when I get home from work tomorrow.

Haha, as I amass these quality tools I don't want to find myself having to do it twice. I'm already in a predicament having bought the orange SO racing screwdriver set and a couple other orange tools, and some green plier sets.

As long as I got a good deal on the quality tools, I could care less.

I've got a color preference, but it doesn't really factor into whether or not I buy something. I look mainly for function followed by (and balanced against) value. The only reason I've got a color preference is that I've toyed with the idea of hiring myself out as a neighborhood handyman. I thought a consistent color theme might present myself as more professional compared to someone who showed up with an assortment of mismatched tools. Also, a consistent color theme (right down to tool box and car) might make me more memorable to clients. :dunno:

My boxes are Snap On red, as God intended them to be  , ratchets are chrome, I have one yellow handled screwdriver because I lost it's predecessor under a hood, I've had it for over 10 years, bought a flathead to open diesel fuel filter bleeder screws, the only one he had was green, no slave to fashion here. :lol_hitti

Imagine if there were only one color in a rainbow. The color of a handle has nothing to do with the price of tea in china. I like a variety of colors and handles. What will you do when the brand you pick changes colors or style:eyecrazy:

I do have a little of that. The blue in those Irwin Vise Grip handles bothers me.

The blue goes with the WD-40 can.

I dont mind a little of this and a little of that (color or brand) it adds variety. Although, I tend to like hard handles opposed to comfort grip as the comforts have grubby look/feel to them and never really get clean.

I'm usually fussy with most things tool related, but color isn't important to me, well other than all my power tools are Makita blue other than a B&D belt sander which I hardly ever use and can't justify spending 2 or 3 hundy to replace in a Makita!

I never thought about it that way, but I think that would be pretty damn professional and memorable to customers.

How long has Snap-On had Red/Orange/Green for? I see your point. I have seen some guys on here that are all about their blue SO goodies that aren't made any more. That would be upsetting!

I saw on another thread on here someone had the green SO box, green service cart, and mostly green SO tools. I don't remember where it was but I want to see the pictures again!

You should put a poll on this thread to keep track of the different preferences. As for myself, I've never thought about color when it comes to tools. I do; however, prefer bright colors for things like tape measures that I am always looking for during a project.

My favorite color is industrial black, because everyone else pays big bucks for the chrome and I can get the black for a comparative bargain.

I like blondes. Oh, we were talking about tools though. I don't have a real preference as far as tool color.

The comment on making a good impression on a customer is a great point.

A poll would be nice too. It would be interesting to see what people prefer as far as color.

I use to be but not so much anymore. I do prefer red toolboxes and bright colored screwdrivers (prefer bright green but no color is a deal breaker)

Put me in the color don't matter column. If the tool feels good in the hand and does its intended job without problems then it goes in my toolbox. I have boxes that are brown, red, grey, and some other colors in there too.

I'd like to be more OCD about my boxes, but cannot afford to. Black Cman box, Red Powdercoat HF Box, Gloss red HF Cart.

Tools inside should not matter. Customer should never see those correct?

I buy or make what ever gets the job done. That is all that matters to me not the color of the tool but what cash the tool makes me.

There is one color I don't like on any toolcart or toolbox: yellow.Stands out way too much. Was looking at a Cornwell toolcart my ex Mac tool dealer took on trade. The color was not my taste at all which was yellow. My father has it to store scan tools.

I like the "groups" to be same colour, but different "groups" in different colours. My Snap-on Torx screwdrivers are all orange, long screwdrivers are red, slotted and Philips are black/industrial, drivers/trim tools/etc are black, the "misc" ones are all different colours (black, orange, yellow, etc.) I like all my ratchets to have orange handles. All my scewdrivers/similar are various brands, i like the mix. :)

not at all.

most of my boxes are red ( as they should be :bounce:)

just now that you mention it, in the garage theres a set of cranberry boxes, a set of red, a SO teal 2 shelf cart, with a red center box under the top shelf, a red/white/blue SO box, and a red & grey CM.

pliers are red or blue, screwdrivers are a mixture of colors...

i'm not sure what i should do :headscrat

The hostility makes me laugh. We all have our opinions, thanks for sharing.

I know I've been in situations where I've had to make due with what I had. I've reached a point in my life where I can enjoy a nice set of tools, so I don't see anything wrong with being professional looking.

This is not a debate of manliness. Maybe some of us see our professions as more than just jobs. To those who are using power and hand tools 40-60 hours a week, what keeps you going? (Besides family, bills, money, etc.) Being able to expand my tool collection and keep my **** squared away helps my motivation level. I don't simply slog through my days and punch the clock.

I can tell you my customers dont care what color my tools are they care that I got there when I said I would , that I get the job done as quickly as I can while still doing it right the first time .

I dont color match my tools I use them for what they were made for and if one brand does a better job than another then I guess I have some of their color in my box/bag.

This is one thing I honestly have never thought about.

I like tool boxes in darker colors (not a fan of fluorescent green or yellow), but I couldn't care less what colors the actual tools are.
