I'm live in frorida. I have my sewing studio on my garage and during the summer it gets pretty humid hot. Ive been looking for a/c units but they are very expensive. I'm trying to look for a cooling fan. There are the swamp fans but apparently it's not going to work because Florida is pure humidity lol :(. Anyone can help please?

I have to agree that the swamp cooler will not work well due to the humidity levels in Florida.

Your only help is going to be mechanical cooling such as a mini-split, unless you have the room for a window unit?

Thank you for posting back! Oh boy those mini splits are expensive :(. I actually might have some some space for a window unit now that I am cleaning the garage.

Window shakers are fairly inexpensive and very efficient. If you have a window in your garage I would definitely go that route. But first insulate your garage door. I also added a ceiling vent fan for noxious odors and to move more hot air upwards.

I don't see any way to cool off the air in Florida without A/C

Yep !

Even with the best fan you can buy, your will not "feel" cool because of the humidity. Worse, sitting in a high temperature (>90), strong air flow will actually make you dehydrate faster.

The only issue with portable units, especially in humid regions is that you have to empty the condensate pan as it will fill up with water pretty quick. Unless you can hook it up to a sink drain or something, a window unit will be your best bet especially if you will be using it regularly.

I have never found a "portable" unit that worked worth a damn in Florida.

I would get the window shaker for $99 at lowes.

Just a word to the wise....

Any window shaker over 12,000 Btu will probably be 230 volts. You can get a 12,000 Btu unit that will run off of 120 volts. Benefit to you is that you won't need to involve an electrician.

Dehumidifier will be a heat added, I would go with a split system, as high of efficiency you can afford, run a set back thermostat, have cool more at nite, lets say 78 at nite then 80 during the day. You will see more de-humidification at lower temps. I'm running an old Janitrol/tappen ac from the 1970's but it much more efficient with the condensate line running out to the condenser coil, drops the head pressure 25-50# don't oversize it short cycles do not remove the humidity as well as longer cycles. tt

You realize that in Florida with all the communist green rebates you can practically buy an A/C for free.
