Yesterday I was about to start the resto of my estate sale Wilton vice score. I was going to strip some of the old paint off with the wire wheel on my estate sale scored Alltrade 6” ½ horse bench grinder, it’s first use.

When I turned on the grinder it started to vibrate pretty significantly, and when I lightly put the part to the wire wheel the grinder slowed significantly. I could probably have stopped it with just a small bit more pressure. Then when I shut it off smoke started to come out from one of the openings along the bottom of the motor.

Given the symptoms I would guess the motor is history. My question is would it be worth getting a replacement motor and where could I get one at a good price?

Thank you,
L

Go buy a new(to you) one.

Go check out a local used tool store or habitat for humanity used supply store. They have AWESOME older used tools. The one near me had an AWESOME older circa 1970/80s grinder/wire wheel bench machine for $25. This thing was HEAVY... I'm talkin like 60 pounds lol.
