It needs to be a 2.5 or 3 ton jack. Ive been looking at the Harbor Freight Pittsburgh 3 ton Rapid Pump for $89.99 or the Craftsman 3 ton Service Jack which is usually $99.99 or with the jacks and creeper for $109.99. Any experience with these or can you guys recommend anything better?

If you have a costco membership or know someone that does, pick up the arcan 3.25 ton jack. It was $99 the last time I was there, but some other members have seen it at a few dollars higher in the last few weeks.

I have a harbor freight 3ton jack and for $100 you can't beat it. Now the one thing that I dislike about the jack is the two piece handle. It wobbled to much in the middle for me, so I welded the two together. problem solved And get a set of 6 ton jack stands to go with your 3 ton jack. I've rather have to much jack stand than not enough.

$100 will get you a high quality, heavy duty, rebuildable, older American made jack such as Weaver, Walker, Blackhawk, Ausco, etc from local craigslist. Well worth the wait if you can hold out.

If it's not rebuildable, then it's not worth buying!
Too much of a throw-away society or it's faster, easier this way. I have an Arcan, does fine until I lift my 88' F-350 7.3 IDI then I can't jack it so my Dad does it. My next bottle jacks will come from Jack Vines rebuilt and USA made! |

at that price for new, you are obviously looking at a chinese mfg jack. My experience is they work fine for a few yrs for home use and then leak, or leak down.
My next purchase will be something USA made at 5x? the HF price as I"ve already had 2 leakers from HF that I've scrapped. And this is after a few yrs at occasional home use- probably a few day of pro use. What's funny is the last one was worth ~$6 scrap on a ~$50 jack. That should tell you how much machining quality you're buying. |

I have had one China made floor jack for 30 years and it just last year started leaking some oil so I replaced it with an Arcan jack that I picked up at Northern Tool - The Aran is a very nice jack. I have only seen positive reviews on it so expect it to last as long as my last one, no need to rebuild it as I will be too old to play with jacking cars up 30 years from now!

Having a jack that's low profile, but can still lift the car very high is awesome! |

Costco Arcan jacks.. I have one and we have 3 at the shop I work at. NO complaints about them at all exempt the ones at the shop are old and beat to hell so they"re getting a little stiff. probably just need some lube.

But yea, modern cars demand much better designed jacks than older ones do. Less clearance, less jacking points, nearly no solid axles. I have a similar one that weighs around the same amount. It's not hard to move around, and the weight isn't that bad because it's not bulky or awkward to pick up, there are nice spots to hold onto. I find it very easy to lift but i'm 6' 175lbs. But it's not like there are many instances where you need to actually pick it up to move it. |

For $100, hands down the Arcan from Costco! Read about it on my website.

im 5'9 and a 135#. i pick up 80-100# boxes of meat daily so its not really about the weight of the jack it just seems a little over the top.

The nice thing is, I have to send the whole jack under the car several feet to get to the front lifting point for our car. It barely has clearance, but even with what little handle movement I can get to start with it actually isn't a pain to lift the car. It still goes pretty quick. Once you get the car off the ground a bit, the rest of it goes really fast. |

Can anyone speak to the durability of the Arcan? My CM 4 ton is starting to go and trying to figure out which way to go. Go cheap and expect to replace every 5 years or so or buy something better.

Some jack manufacturers will not sell repair parts to the general public because of liability issues. Check with the store where you purchase your jack and ask them if they will send it back for repair if needed. I work for NAPA in Mansfield, Ohio and we can not get repair parts for jacks, but we can send them in for repair if they are still in warranty.

i have bought and re-sealed an HF jack. Hf will sell parts for anyting, and they had them in stock.
i could look for months on craigslist and not find one jack, let alone a good/old/usa made one for $100. craigslist is not always the answer
