Your girl looks like she enjoyed the drive. The first time I drove a Jeep I put it in the stock pond. Grandpa had to fish it out.

:scared: How old were you?

Nice setup!

Thanks, Jeff.

That is a nice cruiser your daughter has pictured there!

I'm a bit lost. The bicycle?

Have seen you post on pirate and in the tp, you should just leave that toolbox in nashville before you leave

Ha! You wouldn't want it, it's not a Snap-On.

Wife and I met in the military. She's still in and the military is moving us to Hawaii for three years. Since only one of us is in the military, they will only ship one vehicle. Any additional vehicle we'd have to pay to ship at about $2,100 per vehicle - one way.

I figure between shipping a vehicle there and back, I'll have an additional $4,200 in a vehicle and to me, it just doesn't make sense to do that.

As for the garage, I'm planning on having a single car. Not sure what we'll get there as far as a garage (on post housing), but we've been told we'll have either a one or two car. Considering the two-car I have here is deep enough to park two Jeeps on one side, I know we'll have having a smaller garage - even if it's a two car.

The down-sizing is good, though. Forcing us to eliminate even more clutter.

You going to miss your garage for sure....maybe in Hawaii you will get some outdoor space ....in that climate you should be able,to work outside more

I know the garage is a bit stuffed. I've been working on getting rid of excess stuff but it's been a process. Everything that we had in storage after the move is now in the garage so it's taking a while to sort things out and get rid of things we don't need/want.

Considering how much **** we had accumulated over the past 15 years, and the fact that all of the excess **** is now in the garage instead of storage, we're not doing too bad. :lol_hitti At least with it in the garage I have the motivation to go through it instead of letting it sit in storage.

Life is for me a continual process of sorting, organizing and tossing what's not useful...even our bodies sluff off cells continually and we're remade every seven years I've heard with new cells. According to Piaget, the famous Swedish scientist, teaching sorting techniques is one of the most basic learned behaviors and should be taught consciously to young children. Some are obd (obsessively behavior disordered) like me and enjoy the sorting almost as much as I enjoy the projects. I think Jack's enormous success in his 12 guage garage is a result of a very ordered mind and probably was taught to take care of things and that form followed function. He's a "mastersorter" so to speak. :lol_hitti

Word is that we'll have a garage, but won't know if it'll be a one or two car until we get the house. I'm taking both boxes, the cart, the 60 gallon compressor, mini fridge, and the three 4' workbenches. I figure if I need to get rid of stuff once there due to having a small one car, I might give one, two, or all the benches to local friends on the island. I really don't want to do that, though because the bench vise and wheel truing stand are bench mounted.

Yeah, Jack's setup is nice. I can't wait until we're done with the military moves so we can actually get established in one location.

Things have been extremely hectic here. The F250 has had quite a bit of work done to it lately. New valve cover harnesses, injector O-rings, HPOP O-rings, new VSM, driver's door lock and escutcheon plate (some ***** drove a screwdriver through the lock cylinder to break into it), and I've put a new power steering pump and hoses on it in the past month.

The big Jeep was to have sold last Saturday but the buyer backed out on the Friday prior. Now I'm dealing with on onslaught of tire-kickers that "really want it" but don't have the money. *shakes head

Inspector from the moving company came yesterday for pre-move inspection to see what will need to be crated and such. I wasn't here (was at the Ford dealership) but my wife said "He showed up in an old Road Runner with a Hemi!" :D

He went through the house and said that it should take them one day to pack everything.

Then the wife took him to the garage. :eyecrazy:

"This is where all the fun happens, huh?"

"So, like I was saying, I think it'll take us three days." :lol_hitti

He said that the HF 56" with the hutch and lockers would probably have to be disassembled for the move. Said that it might be too tall to fit in the moving container. They're going to drop off some empty boxes and I'm going to pack the tools myself so they're wrapped and packed in some sort of organized manner. I figure if I pack each drawer into a box, the box shouldn't be too heavy and it will simplify things when I unpack.

I still haven't been able to make the trip to pick up the old Model A, but I did get this for it. Last signed by the original owner in '33 :D

I cannot wait until after this move is done and over with. Too much stress with everything going on.

Wow just getting caught up to speed with your thread. Hopefully the move will go smooth and you won't have anything to worry about. Just remember to take a deep breath and take some time out for you and the family.

I didn't see where you may have said in the thread (maybe you didn't), but are you keeping the house? When we moved overseas, the house in the states was rented for the 2.5 years we were out and then just came back to it. Or are you going to start fresh once back?

Either way, we'll be here when you start your next build:D

Dave,

We're renting the house we're in now, but own one in Georgia. We'll likely never go back to that house, but instead keep it as a rental property.

The stress of everything going on is wearing me thin right now. Dealing with tire-kickers with the Jeep sale, the move, and family health issues is more than I care to deal with right now.

I can't wait until this move is over. Will be a huge stress relief. I'm debating having the model A shipped to Hawaii (about $2,500) just so I can have it to work on while there. Of course I'd have to spend another $2,100 to ship it back, but it might just be worth it to be able to get out in the garage and work on it.

Undecided right now. Still debating it.

If you are going to be there for any length of time, I think it would be worth it to have it shipped over. Make for a fun toy to cruise around the island in!

badass. looks like the kids love it! Actually looks like they fit in to it perfectly. How does dad fit? :lol_hitti

If it were me, I may swap out that high-rise just for visibility sake. Hang on to it to swap in occasionally of course. It may kill the "look" but will help you out while driving around. Then again, what do i know?

Last night SWMBO came out and placed jack stands at each corner of the body as I lifted each corner so I could lift it high enough to have room to cut the body mount brackets from the frame. Told her we really needed a garage with a lift at our next house. She gave me that look. :lol_hitti

So yeah, the body mounts. I figure I'll cut'm off, flip them, and re-weld them today. For now I'll hard mount it, but I'll order a universal body mount kit from Energy Suspension for later.

Got the body mounts flipped and flush with the top of the frame. Tomorrow I'll drop the body back down and get it bolted in place.

Here's a shot of the new stance and the air filter that just showed up. I decided the air filter would be the one thing I buy new for it before it goes into storage.

I could just as easily put a picture of Wall-E or Johnny Number 5 here. :lol_hitti

Side view of the engine/filter placement. Undecided where this will sit. Will figure it out after I stare it at for a while.

Someday down the road I would like to build something just like your 28' to tear up the streets with. Will the 14" kick up in the rear allow you to put a seat in the back for the kids?

No, the rear kick-up negates a back seat. I'm thinking about reworking the rear end, but as tall as my daughter is going to be, I might just keep it a 2-seater and use it for a weekend cruiser for the wife and I. I think Megan is going to be too tall to sit behind either of us in this and having them crawl in/out would be cumbersome.

I've gone through all of the pages and I am so impressed and awed by your meticulous work.

Love the bikes. I have a "few" in mine as well, but that Specialized is all business.

Thanks for sharing your garage and "side projects." Good luck with the upcoming move.

I think the new stance is just about right. And after seeing more pictures, that hi-rise aint too bad. Nice that yours came with the WWW's. I would love to get some for my studes... but they are pretty expensive. Im going the old fashioned way and grinding them down.

Came into this thread (again) for the vintage radio redo (awesome!) and was drawn in by your other projects and your attention to detail. This is one of my favorite threads on GJ.

Wishing you luck for the move.

Thanks for the good words, guys.

I haven't been on here much, busy moving. We got on the island the 11th and have been busy since.

Here's a photo from May 1st. They removed the side lockers from the roller and left the hutch in place. Oddly, they left the tools in place as well. As a result the floor of the crate was cracking when the rolled the box in. I was told the next day that this container weighed 2,000lbs.

We're in a hotel for now, waiting for an opening in housing.

Can't wait to get settled in.

OK, I'm back.

Here's a few pics to tell the story.

We found a house here in Hawaii and finally got moved in.

First truck puked up some stuff.
http://sphotos-a.**.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/s720x720/427467_2322930289991_399862141_n.jpg

On the first truck were the lockers and cart. They put boxes inside the lockers and didn't pad anything to prevent movement. As a result, I have paint rubbed off the insides of my lockers. Will file a claim.
http://sphotos-a.**.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/s720x720/554999_2323093574073_1438219805_n.jpg

Then the 2nd truck arrived. This carried the rest of the garage items.

First, the 41" Craftsman.
http://sphotos-a.**.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/s720x720/391655_2323268218439_1805160499_n.jpg

Then the 56" HF box with hutch.

How our place looked after truck #2 puked.

A couple of pics showing how the garage looked the night we moved in.

The next day I got to work setting everything up.

What's up 89TJ! Glad you got there and got setup. I saw some old posts of yours and wondered how the PCS went. Good luck picking off all the moving stickers. Hopefully your cabinets is the first last and only item you'll have to file a claim on.

Welcome back! :)

I'm in Kapolei. Didn't bring the Model A, but I'm thinking about picking up a project to work on and drive while here. :lol_hitti

Hey, you! We spent 2 1/2 months in the hotel. Crazy. All of our bedroom furniture was damaged, as was all of our tables. Coffee table, end tables, dining table. One of the feet on the wife's china cabinet was damaged and I JUST made those before we moved. My daughters headboard was damaged...all of our shoes were thrown into my whiskey barrel...and tools were thrown on top. Dress shoes are ruined.

I'm missing a 50ft. Goodyear air hose and a cooler. I'm guessing the hose is in the cooler.

Claims will be extensive on this move. This will actually be the first move where I'll bother with a claim.

just so you know i now own 3 antique console radios! thanks a lot *******. hahaha.

Ha-ha! I have two. The '38 General Electric and I brought the '39 Zenith with me to work on.

Is that Thai?

Aloha! Sorry to hear about the damaged/missing property. Does Uncle Sam let you amend the claim as you 'discover' further hidden damage? I can't help but wonder if the civilian world gets the same level of service (or lack of it). Hope the entire family is able to enjoy the tour. Good luck!

I just realized I called you 89TJ instead of 98TJ up there. Sorry man, I made you lose years. Sounds like the movers were pretty consistent in beating up your stuff. "That's why we don't have nice things".

Thanks for the photos. Between you here and my friends on FB who are stationed out there, you're killing me with these great weather beautiful area photos

Not being a very emotional guy, really, no really, I have had a couple of memorable events that were very emotional. The first was my first visit to the Viet Nam Memorial in Washington DC, the second was the visit to the Arizona. These monuments truly represent the hallowed ground for those men and women who have given all for our freedoms. This is no disrespect for the other monuments, just a personal reflection.

Thanks for the pictures.

Awesome pictures of Pearl Harbor. It is definitely on my bucket list being the history nerd that I am. Good luck with your claims with the moving company. It is amazing how much stuff that they were able to screw up!
