I will be laying Armstrong Commercial Grade VCT in a black/white checkerboard fashion. I know when tiles have a "grain" pattern they alternate the grain direction when it's a consistent color. My question is do you do it the same way and lay all the blacks in one direction and the whites the other?

When we did our shop, my wife & I made sure they were all going the same direction. In reality, 95% of people will never notice. I was in a convenience store this morning & their VCT was going in all directions.

I agree most will not notice...except me
My worry is I will have a 4' border of gray from the walls in around the checkerboard patter and I will stagger the gray....I guess the white and black can run the same direction probably lengthwise as the floor is 20x44
