Makes sense I just assumed you were restoring it to put on the shelf to show off. I use mine for everything even the anvil. It maybe old but there tough.

Nope the only "tool" I have to display and not use is my Great Grandfathers bamboo fly rod.

Ok I need some serious help!

How the fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck do you get the jaw screws out? I am pretty sure they have been in there for 70 years and never once removed since the jaws had a bit of the red paint on them. The jaws are in excellent+ condition but now the screws are a bit marred from trying to get them out.

So far they have been soaked for 3 hours (small drops in the screw holes) with penetrating fluid. A screwdriver was a no go. An impact driver was a no go. Blowtorching + screwdriver was a no go.

Right now they screws are soaking in EvapoRust (drops in screw holes) and then after cleaning with break fluid I will soak them with another round of penetrating fluid.

Please!!! Any advice is greatly appreciated. I could just leave the jaws on and mask them for painting but I would really like to get them off and clean up the vice properly. I am really shocked that the screw heads have not snapped off yet.

I hit this with one of my Records. In the end I use an adaptor and bit in my impact wrench (air) and it did the trick. Not sure if this is the right or best or safest answer - used adapter and bit from my hammer type impact socket set (after the hammering failed).

BHH.....here is what I have been known to do. I take it to a machine shop and let them get the fasteners out. It may seem like a cop out but my machine shop has always thanked me for not bringing it in with broken bolts....extractors....or messed up holes that they have to drill and retap. I haven't had them charge me yet for doing it. They do some other machine work for me so I do some business with them. If it goes beyond heating the fastener to get it out.....I just take it to the shop.

Catalyze that may be a smart way to go. Is all they do is drill the screw and use an extractor? I just really really don't want them to mess this up. Plus I know no one at a machine shop so it would be just some joe coming into their shop with his old *** vise that they could care less about.

It is soaking in penetrating fluid, a mix of a few actually haha. The last two things I am willing to try before taking it to a pro is letting it soak for 12 hours and if a screwdriver can't take them out I will try a socket driver on a breaker bar. After that I guess I have to trust a pro.
