Today, went by local Sears with a receipt from a fellow GJ member and was told "no go". Explanation was that price matching is on regular and sale prices only not on clearance. Oh well. The girl who helped was very nice. However, the guy she was asking regarding price match was a total ****. Not just because he didn't match, he was rude and condescending to the cashier.
Another interesting thing they said, was that "super Clearance"items are completely up to the individual store and not in the Sears system. I'm not totally sure I buy that.
I tried the local Sears Hardware today with a receipt (for the 9pc set) from GJ member and was basically told the same thing. First the manager didn't believe the receipt and called another hardware store in the area and told me they had them at regular price. I said yeah I know that's why I brought the receipt.
She then told me that it was a one time thing at the individual store where I had the receipt from, she said it was more than likely a tag problem and the manager sold them for that price anyway.
I went through the whole story with her and got the impression she just didn't believe me. I then called another store (local corporate owned store) and had them price check the item number. It came up as the clearance price.
I told the manager this and she then went into the whole private owned thing and that her store was different from the corporate stores and it didn't matter she wouldn't sell me the set at the clearance price.
She then went on to tell me that it is up to the individual store manager to honor clearance prices and honor price matches.
Funny thing is I went to a different hardware store with my receipt (I found 6pc sets locally) and they had no problem price matching with the corporate store.
Oh well it was worth a try anyway.
