Jamesbbh, Nice ! I like the expanded metal fish. I might have to try that one. I got some old 10" circular saw blades that I could cut for fins. Good work.

Oh yeaaahhhhhh, I figured go ahead and leave some "just in case" room. I plan on it laying on the ground when parked.
![]() This is the night the tow truck dropped it off. It's in about 38765873657356387 pieces in the shop right now. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Build thread here----> http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=144095 |

A quick little welding project from last night. I recently installed saddlebags on my Wide Glide but I needed a place to store them when they are not on the bike. I didn't want them sitting on the counter in the garage nor did I want them sitting on the bench in the shop to get scuffed or scratched.
I decided to fabricate a rack to hang them on the wall in the garage next to my windshield. Mike. Here is what I started with, 2 pieces of 3/4" thin wall square tube each measuring 12" in length. I then welded two 3/8" socket head bolts to each piece the proper distance apart so they would engage with the cam lock on the back of the saddlebag. ![]() Completed support bars. ![]() I then took a 36" long piece of 1" square tubing and welded the two 3/4" pieces with the bolts to it. I angled the support bars approx. 7 degrees to match the saddlebag mounts so the bags would be parallel and even when hanging on the rack. ![]() A couple of my welds. Sorry for the fuzzy pic. ![]() ![]() Painted and hanging on the wall. ![]() Here is the mount with the bags hanging on them mounted next to my windshield.

no projects yet, but i got my Everlast 250ex about 2 weeks ago, and have been welding after work about 3 days a week practicing, and things are progressing pretty good. I've never tig welded before buying the machine, but i did spend HOURS upon HOURS reading and watching every video on Youtube. Plan on making up some oil catch cans and overflow tanks as soon as my bungs get in the mail.
1/8" 6061, 95amps, 3/32 2% lanthanated, 3/32 4043 filler, about 70% ac balance, 125hz, and no pulse. trying really hard to gain consistent puddle ripples, but i don't have the heat control down 100% yet. the factory pedal with the 250EX is a pos also so that doesn't help. ![]()

![]() If you can weld like that already, you will become excellent in no time. Those beads are nice man.

I'm a new poster (old lurker) here, so I figured I might as well post a few of my projects. Nothing fancy, but I like to repurpose old stuff.
![]() Had a bucket of these old, rusty, giant nails. Don't know where they came from, but my father drug them home at some point, so I'm going to use 'em. ![]() After bending, welding, wirebrushing, etc. ![]() Finished product. Modified the first aid kit with hooks to stay in place. Nalgene bottle was just for demonstration. ![]() One side finished/mounted in a nissan pathfinder. ![]() Fast forward to the other side finished. Before anybody asks, the barrel sits ABOVE the line of fire of the driver's head, and I don't keep it loaded, or in the car most of the time. I just wanted a way to hold some of my rifles on the way to the range/etc. ![]() Shot of the whole thing. Considering I have the cost of welding wire, and 2 cans of cheap walmart spray paint invested in them, I'm happy with the way they came out. They're bolted to the factory mounts where the stock clothes hooks were, so no extra holes were added in the interior panels. All in all, it works amazingly for what I use it for. |

Project number two. My roof rack has snowboard carriers on it, and they whistle. A lot. So I went about fixing that.
![]() Started with some tubing. It's just painted silver. Not galvanized, BUT I did grind down all around the welds, and use a ton of ventilation, just to be on the safe side. ![]() Used a saw blade for the side plates. I have a ton of 'em laying around, and it's cheaper to buy new ones than to retooth them these days. ![]() The whole frame welded up and painted. I don't have any photos of heating/bending the lexan to fit, but it's 3/8" supposedly ballistic material. I'd never worked with it, so it was a lot of fun to try new techniques and add to my comfortable skillset. ![]() Finished thing mounted on the same pathfinder. Works great, and I'm into it for about a buck, not including welding wire, so I'm very happy about it. |

There are some sweet projects in here.
I finished my grinder stand the other day. The base looks small in this pic, but it is a 13" Dexter brake drum and has some good weight to it. The hub and the tube were axle parts from the 5th wheel I scrapped earlier this year, and the top is 2 pieces of 1/4" thick, 2" wide plate I welded together. To keep warpage to a minimum, I beveled the edges of the plates and made one pass on each side. |
