How to remove paint from floor?

So the previous owner of my house used some type of grey floor paint to paint the whole garage floor right when he moved out. It looked great but the hot tires are peeling up the paint and its starting to chip in many areas. I want to recoat the floor with something more permanent like epoxy or u-coat-it or something. But first, i must remove everything that is on that floor. Whats the best way to get the old paint up? I tried letting paint thinner soak under a drop cloth for 24 hours and then using a scraper but it didnt work very well. I have heard the only way to get it up is using a grinder with a shop vac with a diamond blade and a whole lot of time.

Any suggestions? (its a 2 car garage) thanks.

If its peeling, get a scraper. Home depot or lowes makes one, with a heavy tip and a long handle.
You can rent a diamond bit sander as well from your local rental place,, although I didn't find this to be as easy as you might expect.

its only peeling in the high heat areas like around the tires and under the exhaust and engine. scraping it doesnt seem like it would be the best way. Renting the diamond bit sander might be a better option than buying it since I really only would use it once.. I just know itd be a ton of work on my hands and knees if i use a handheld angle grinder. But if thats the best way then Im ready to do it! Just seeing if there was an easier option out there..

Brother if you plan to use epoxy it needs to go.

Edco with stripserts
or....
Diamabrush

angle grinder is a pain, get the better cup wheel, more segments less kissing to the floor.

Get a diamabrush and use on a 7" grinder.. I did on a much harder material than paint and it worked great. Fairly quick- watch their video. Bought mine from Legacy.

Huge job.
You can have a grage dance and ware it off square dancing.
You can take stripper and strip it then wire brush it.
You can sand blast it and have a rough floor
You can repaint it with a good epoxy floor paint.
I would repaint it. Stripping it will still leave spot of paint in the poors and the chemicals from the stripper will still be in the cement.
Then you can carpet it
You can rough it up and use water proof mastic and tile the floor.
I build one house in Palm Springs and the owner had me put marble tile on the garage floor and walk ways.

Seriously I would repaint it with the best paint I could fine. I whould never do anything to a cement floor in a garage if were my choice.

The members on here can tell you whis is the best product and method. If you want it stripped it is going to be a huge job and cost a bunch.

Good luck with the project.

If you go to a rental place, they rent an orbital that has carbide blades. It's not for taking down concrete, but it's for removing paint. I need to do it to the house garage. From Sunbelt or whatever it's called now, it's $75 for 24 hours.
