I am again leaning toward racedeck-type plastic tile, after leaning toward porcelain, due mainly to ease of install.

But I do a lot of machining in my garage. Due shavings/chips/sawdust sweep up easily or do they they get held down by the diamond/coin top surface?

Ease of sweeping compared to smooth concrete?

Do chips/shavings/sawdust get caught in the gaps between tiles?

Also, since you have to leave a big (1/4"-12") gap at the walls for expansion, is there a good way to seal chips out of that gap? I can see it being really hard to clean out that gap.

Thanks

The main problem you'll have is chips will melt into the plastic tiles just like they do into rubber fatigue mats.

I do not do any machining in my garage, but I can tell you that dirt, dust, grass blades, and grit pebbles from the grip surface atop the bendpak lift ramp sweep away just as easy as smoth concrete. The diamond pattern that sticks up has a smooth transition into the tile so things sweep up and over pretty easy. The joints are all very tight and stuff does not get stuck in the cracks. The edges could be a problem, but you could always pull up the edge tiles and clean around the edge as necessary, this is not a big deal to do so long as nothing is on top of the tiles you are removing. I guess you could try to do some sort of base board to seal your edge tiles.

The gap, in our premium tile, for example is minimal and can usually be swept over without an issue. The other option would be to go with our ribbed tile and shop vac through the tile.

I do machining and have foam runners on the floor. These are way softer than the tiles mentioned. They do get some pieces embedded but not many. My stuff won't take very heavy cuts. What I can tell you is that my shop vac with the "wet" pickup - wide, narrow, with the rubber lip in the middle - works best at cleaning swarf off the runners. The broom and industrial 24" sweep do not do well on any surface other than the epoxy floor.
