Thats pretty standard prices for Kennedy machinist boxes around here. I'm always stunned by how cheaply you Americans manage to find Machinist boxes.

You could get both set at flee market for $30. I bought four of the top chest for around $15 each.

Where are these flea markets located? Seriously I have been trying to buy a decent machinist box since I started my apprenticeship and can't find **** for less than a few hundred dollars.

You have to be in the state. I turn down 2 more Kennedy top boxes becuase I thought four were plenty.

Thought I did decent 2 weeks ago. 350 for this whole set. I know the one drawer handle is loose. Just need to tighten it back up.

Nobody's going to believe me without pics, but I picked up a Kennedy upper like the OP posted for $0.25 a few years back. To be honest though, it looked like it was worth $0.25 though. Drawers still work fine though and no rust so it's good to me!

I believe you. Ive bought several for <$25 with tools and always felt lucky if I got $20 for the boxes. The top box is a model 820 Kennedy IIRC, and dam are those things tinny.

Around here, they show up on CL all the time for $75-200. I've bought two 27" 8-drawer chests without tools (one Craftsman, one Kennedy-see the garage sale thread) in the past year for a good chunk less than that. Being patient but not aggressive, I guess.

I'm not sure I believe you, I would need to see some pictures of the said tool box as well as the quarter (or the 2 dimes & 1 nickel, or 5 nickels, or 1 dime & 3 nickels, or 25 pennies, or 2 dimes & 5 pennies, or 10 pennies & 1 nickel & 1 dime, or 15 pennies & 2 nickels, or 20 pennies & 1 nickel, etc.) be handed to the seller.

Does all that add up to $25? :dunno:

I recently found a Kennedy machinist box for 10 buck at a yard sale. It's posted in the garage sale thread. But I have seen plenty of junk ones that were way over priced.

Just need to be there first... Upper (Beach) was under $100 and that lower was $15, but had to put some wheels back on. Have had good luck finding boxes, in fact found some vintage Gray right down the street from you.

That Beach upper version comes up regularly.

The prices in the original post are too high, but the problem with posting it here is you'll get people responding who have to one up each other with the super deals they've found.

I paid $50 each for mine. One through CL, one at a garage sale. Both are fully functional, one is nicer and less used than the other. I wouldn't have bought the second one at that price, but it's for my dad.

Those you posted Jim are the wider 526 models, prices are about right but I have scored one full of machinist tools for $45 before. Just don't look for one and you will find one cheap ;)

Just for fun, this is the kind of "deal" I find up here.

http://ontario.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-...Kennedy-Machinist-Tool-Box-W0QQAdIdZ424669006

For those won't view it, its an 8 drawer Kennedy top chest, no tools included, $150.

or

http://ontario.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-...nnedy-machinist-tool-boxes-W0QQAdIdZ418625988

8 drawer top with middle chest, $200, no tools.

$150 to $200 with no tools for just a top chest is a pretty standard price here.

You should abandon Canada and move to the US.

Can't say I blame you Mickey. If someone had told me that I'd call bull too!

But, it did happen. Wish I could post up pics of it but my laptop and GJ don't mesh real well with photo's. Or photobucket for that matter.

Like I said though, It LOOKS like a $0.25 Kennedy if you can imagine that. Beat up and crappy paint job (from me) But it works. Got it from a local Catholic Church's fundraising yard sale.

FWIW, I've got five Kennedy 7-drawer machinist's boxes and one mechanic's chest for which I paid from $20 to $50. The condition was pretty much in line with the price. The wider top and middle machinists boxes came as a package deal with tools, so difficult to say how much.

Bottom line - Kennedy has made millions of them, including some for Craftsman, so they're out there.

Then there is this guy. These things have been posted for damn near a year on CL every week. He just recently lowered the price to $1000
http://dayton.craigslist.org/tls/3370313049.html

or this guy who wants $125 for the lil 6 drawer
http://dayton.craigslist.org/tls/3361037359.html
at least he gives a good description copy pasted from MSC's website along with a MSRP of $615

$625 for this set
http://dayton.craigslist.org/tls/3290663013.html

The kennedys are nice boxes when priced accordingly, but some of these guys want top dollar over what a nice larger SO box would go for. Albeit if you need a machinist box, a mechanic box would probably not work as well because of the large deeper drawers

I sold a roller just like that, in very nice shape (no mid box or locker, but it did have the drop shelf) for $400 today. The guy who got it was happy to pay it.

I don't think I could get much more for that here in Florida though. Sort of want to sell it for more and get a nice kennedy maintenance 3402
