A good friend of mine called earlier this morning asking if I'd like a bench vise and of course like any Garage Journal member I said YES!

He just dropped it off, it was mounted on a back of a truck using his truck hitch so it's in need of a little tender loving care...

Very sadly, it's made in china. :( Needs a really good cleaning and new jaws for sure. Anyone know if MAC still carries parts for this vise or any other place I can get them?

It is a wilton vise, just find the matching wiltion model and get jaws for that. Thats what i did when the inserts broke on my matco branded vise. They are kinda expsensive, like $50.

What makes you so sure it's a Wilton vise? Any idea where I can find the tear down steps for this? In it's current dirty state I can't seem to find any way to remove the dynamic jaw from the body.

It's the lower end Wilton. The screw should come all the way out, as it is threaded into a casting that is held in place by a screw up from the bottom. The jaws for a 6" Wilton are $50, so you are going to have a bit of time and money into this project to have a Chinese vise when you are done.

I'm not sure it's worth the investment of time and money - you can find a nicer used vise for around $50.

Personally id leave it like that as it gives it character. I dont care for vises with nice shiny paint as id rather see grease personally but to each their own

They are not bad general purpose vises. I have two I bought for the shop before I knew better and they do what they are suppose to. They are a "higher end" chicom vise in terms of quailty.
