pole barn shop addition... ideas?

Goal: To fit my 9'6'' 2 post lift.

I need more space. my plan is to dig 3 12'' sonotubes 48'' deep and attach 6''x6''x10''s to on this side for the framing. Then on the other side, add another 2 feet ontop of the current 8' wall.

on the left and right side of the addition I will re-use the current wall on this side of the building. I will basicly cut it in half, and use 1 half for the left of it, and the other half for the right.

roof: I will completely remove this roof and install a new steeper pitch roof.

whata u guys think? I am going to use as much reclaimed materials as I possibly can to keep this under the $1000 requirement for having to pull a permit. I don't anticipate a problem, as I should have most of the lumber already.

The current walls are only 8'. I will need to raise the far side wall by 2 feet. Whats the best way to do this?

Run your side girts right by the outsides of the walls to the back wall that you are keeping.

Where are you located? Id skip the sonotubes. Dig a hole 18inches in diameter x 48inches deep. Pour a 8in concrete pad at the bottom of the post hole. Poke at the concrete with a 1x4 or clamp a palm sander to vibrate the crete(removing air,voids and helping it level out) Let concrete harden. Now drop your post in the hole, brace the pole so its in the correct location. Slowly add 4in of chat(fine sharp gravel) around the post. Tamp that down and repeat with 4in lifts until the hole is full. Add some water if the chat doesnt pack really hard. You will have a much stronger structure this way. A pole building gets its stability from the post being embeded in the ground. Some people embed the post in concrete but we have seen it cause rotted posts.

I'm in southern NH. I'm still shooting around ideas... I'm just trying to find the best way to get the room I need with the least amount of headache to achieve it.

Now im wondering if I should just turn this into a 2 car garage. I could basicly build another bay and then connect the roofs... How would this affect my taxes?

Pole bldg vs. stick on foundation, I'd be concerned about it freeze/thaw at different rates maybe creating problems later on.
