Now that two kids are getting ready for college, I finally have a chance to reclaim my ownership of the place. Got new garage doors installed, and before I have my new lighting installed, I want to paint the walls, ceiling and enclosed wooden cabinets. I figure bright gloss white on the walls and ceiling, but since there are really no stains, can I get by with just a GOOD bright white latex? Or should I use the same Killz like I have planned for the wooden doors? If I have to spend the money I will, I'm just wondering if I need to or not. I'll post some before and after pics to show the difference lights and paint can make. Thanks.

If you prime with Kilz oil based, you will need to top coat it with paint. If you don't top coat it, it will turn yellow, think nicotine yellow.

If it's bare wood or bare sheet rock prime it.You will save the cost of the primer because it will take less paint to cover.

Yes, it also comes as a latex. As good, don't know but I have had good luck with the oil based stuff. I believe when I bought mine the oil based was cheaper than the latex.

Btw, the oil based does stink. . . . bad.

Yes KILZ smells terrible, we just KILZ'd our Playroom floor to deter our dogs from peeing on the new carpet that's going in. The previous owners' dogs pee'd all over it, so our dogs felt the need to do it too.
