My point is any 3/8 ratchet will get torn up in use. I'll post pictures of mine if you don't believe me.
They cry on here about it but they write off the demos as a business expense and they get rebuilt by SO for free. I'm saying stop crying it's ridiculous.

Wow... You're a winner

You buy it for cost which you probably write off as a business expense anyway and it gets rebuilt for free whenever it breaks.

So many have no clue as to how tax write offs work. He only get to write off the amount of tax he would have paid on the item. If the item cost $100 and his bracket is 25% he only writes off $25. He is still out $75 of his own money to provide a courtesy for his customers, some which obviously don't appreciate.
EDIT- TheGrooveKing beat me to it.

That's not completely correct. I think you are getting sales tax confused with regular business deductions. If he couldn't resell the product because it was damaged beyond repair he not only won't pay resale tax on the item but he also can claim a deduction on the cost he's out of pocket on the item. I have a vending business and on average 10% of my product expires before it's sold. Since it is never sold the product I don't pay the state resell tax on the item AND I get a deduction on the products cost.

Sure he's probably not going to be made whole again but it's not like he's eating a $399 ratchet like you guys are made to believe.
I'm not saying it's OK to abuse a demo tool or whatever I just think they are leaving out some things.

You do realize that if the expired product cost you $100, the loss doesn't reduce your taxes by $100, right? So you're out some money ($100 minus your marginal tax rate times the $100). You would earn more money if none of your product expired. Similarly, the tool truck dealer earns more money if people don't willfully destroy his loaner tools.

No I'm not confusing sales tax with income tax. A deduction only reduces your taxable income. If your tax bracket is 25% you still have a net loss of 75% of the cost of the deduction.

I have a Very Good Condition Snap On FAR 70B. Is this obsolete tool still being used in the real world of pro mechanics.

How best should I try to sell it, get value from it, whatever ????

I also have a 1/4" Bluepoint AT200 to sell

I still use my FAR70,bought in 1973.The swivel hose broke on it years ago,I replaced it with a straight fitting.A month ago, I had to replace the tiny little o-ring in it.Not bad for 37 years old.I really don't want to use anything else,in fact my newer one just collects dust.

I'm a diesel mechanic for NJ Transit and most of my work is done on much larger nuts and bolts. I have a strong 1/2 impact for most stuff, but I need something non impact with good power for harder to reach areas. Anyone have a valid opinion on what ratchet might fit my needs?

The Snap On Far air ratchets.Only ones that I found the strongest.I tried an IR 109XP,not impressed with the power with it.I have the FAR7200 air ratchet including the FAR72B I bought from the second hand market. Finally got my FAR7200 back from the rebuilder, cost me $148.00 and some change to have rebuilt.

I own the 3/8 drive The Mac Tools AR778A, it features shift on the fly mechanism which is neat when doing assembly work and a sealed head.

• 80 ft./lbs. of torque
• Free Speed of 200 RPM

This is the 3/8 air ratchet I use, but I also have a SO FAR72b that rarely gets used. The Mac has plenty of power and a lower profile head which is why I like it so much. I also have the 1/4 drive version it also has a more low profile head than other 1/4 drive air ratchets.

I have had a snap on far 72c for about 15 years or so, it was a stout tool and hand
buster for sure , but it developed a issue where when loosening moderately tight fasteners it would reverse itself. Have had it rebuilt about 4 times, it will be ok for a session or 2 , than start reversing itself. I went ahead and bought the mac ar778 and so far am very impressed. Seems like any open endframe air ratchet will have issues down the road imo. John

Saw these on the truck today:

Snap-On FAR72C (Made in the USA):

http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item...roup_ID=682047&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog

and the Blue Point AT700F (Made in Japan):

http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item...roup_ID=675143&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog

The SO can be had for about $325 on the truck. The BP for less than $200.

Is the FAR72C a rebrand of another model? Anything from Atlas/Copco or elsewhere that's equivalent or superior? The FAR72C looked pretty nice. Great balance and quiet.

The good thing about the Snap on Far series is that although they're expensive to buy new, you can get them rebuilt for a flat fee from Snap on which is like getting a new air ratchet at less than half price.
So,,, I pay 3X what a CP could be had off the shelf so I can have it rebuilt at a later date for more than a new replacement would cost?

lol, I re-read this thread and had a lot of laughs. My FAR72B broke since 2010 another time and was rebuild for like $110 I think flat rate from SO. They rebuilt the head and it's now a FAR72C. "B" parts are no longer available.
Still runs great!

There are certain tools that Snapon makes that really shine; the far72/7200 is defintiely one of them, I also love my far 25A! :)
