Hi Guys!
I just found this board through google searches for various air compressors that I am currently looking at purchasing. You guys seemed to have a lot of knowledge and experience with garages so I thought I would join.
I'm a recent college grad (Graduated in May 2010) and have a wife and a 8 month old daughter. We had been renting a house for the past 3 years, and we finally bought our own place in Metamora, IL (near Peoria). While we had a garage at the rental place, it was tiny and I couldn't do much with it. The house we bought has 2 oversized single car garages, stacked end to end. One is the original garage on the house, the 2nd is an add-on garage that is still all open framed on the inside. It is pretty much a clean slate to work with. Each garage is 16' wide by 25' long. So, overall, I've got 16' x 50' of total garage space with the old exterior wall of the house sarating the two garages.
I am into cars. I drive a 2008 Mustang GT that I am using as a daily driver and project car. I do all my own work on my cars. I've replaced the clutch and transmission on my wifes car (2 seperate jobs), and done general maintenance on both our cars. I also am starting to get into at home powdercoating on the side. I plan on doing my own parts for my car, and am looking to get occasional side jobs for other people.
I'm shopping for an air compressor right now. I'm pretty set on getting one of the 60 gallon 11.5 cfm@90 compressors available at lowes, home depot, menards, etc. It's stretching my budget a bit to get that compressor over some of the 30 gallon belt driven units. I don't have any room financially to go up to the more commercial units. These 60 gallon compressors should be able to allow me to sandblast, paint, and run any other air tools that I need. I know sandblasting and painting will tax the compressor the most, but I'm prepared to accept that.
Not much of a woodworking guy. I want my garage to allow me to do the automotive work that I would like to do. My future (dream) plans would be to have a 2 post car lift, large tool chest to hold all my tools, & air compressor plumbed through the garage with all my air tools, sand blast cabinet and large powder coating oven that could handle axle housings, engine blocks, motor cycle frames etc. All of it would be organized into a layout that makes sense.
Anyway, I have rambled on long enough. Suffice it to say, i've got plans for my garage, and I'm finally a home owner where I can get my garage how I want it. It will be a work in progress. I may never get it exactly how I want it, but it doesn't hurt to have a goal.
Looking forward to gathering information and absorbing everything I can on the forums.
