They have wood rails. A square piece of wood (think wood keystock) is fixed to the sides of the box. Then a groove is cut in the drawer's side. This groove rides over the square piece of wood creating a slide. The ones I am familiar with do not have drawer stops so care must be taken. I think the newer ones do have a ball detent drawer stop system.

All in all they are neat boxes, just not designed for lots of weight or rugged use. They are like a manly jewelery box.

Sweet, thanks guys. I see kind of a tongue and groove type slide in there. I was never into the wood boxes but some of those Gerstner's are beyond nice. I can just picture that one with black stain and red felt to match my lathe table. I am roughly redoing a Kennedy 520 to hold my measuring instruments now but am on the lookout for a deal like bisley45 found.

Went to an estate auction this past weekend and picked up 6 Rigid pipe dies (1/8" - 1") and handle for $10. They are used but the threads on all the dies are great shape. Got the Wright 3/4 model 6400 ratchet for $20. Also got a lightly used Tugit 2 ton lever chain hoist for $30. Been awhile since I have been to an auction that good.

bisley45, GREAT BUY on the Gerstner! Yours has the optional Stop-Trac (sp?) system for keeping the drawers from inadvertantly being pulled completely out. I bought the same box new from Penn Tool around '93 and paid around $400. I do not have that option on my box.

picked these up this morning. i posted on another thread about the DP i was after. ended up being in excellent shape minus the cosmetics of it, functions smooth and effortlessly. also picked up from the same place this snap on top tool chest with contents. bunch of sockets and wrenches. and also a cheap bench grinder. all in all i walked about with the lot for 105 bucks. $50 for drill press and $50 for the snap on w/contents and 5bucks for the grinder. i think i made out pretty well. im yet to go through all the sockets, but just looking there is some S&K, craftsman, SO in there. so for wrenches

Although I am not a personal fan of the gerstners (I don't think I am old enough to legally own one); that is a beautiful box and an amazing deal. What do you plan on keeping in it?
Looks like you have a nicely repainted Southbend 9C in the background?

Good eye on the id of the lathe its my baby 1936 vintage

Got this for a 100 dollars this week. It's a delta Milwaukee wood metal bandsaw. The kid had tried to put a motor on it but when he was done it ran the wrong direction ,and he gave up. I got it home and right on the motor is directions on reversing rotation. Ugly color though

Picked up these goodies recently...

Double Handled driver..lol..was from an older Klein/Vaco display board comparing their handles to Xcelite & Easco.

Penncraft Flex head #3670 3/8 ratchet
Fairmount B51 3/8 ratchet by Wright.

USA made novelty adjustable "Clincher" by The Tool Works Inc, back when gimmick tools were still made here.

Great deal, it looks very complete. You **** for sure
Make sure to check all the bearings and change the oil before putting it into regular service. Don't you love it when it is just a simple fix?

Well that is interesting. What are your plans for it? Is that something that is collectable? I have a few Vaco orange handle screwdrivers. They seem pretty nice.

I like my Vaco nutdrivers.

I'd think that advertizing display pieces would be more collectable than the drivers themselves.

Never saw the Clincher design before. Kind of a neat idea. I'm guessing the plates are 1/16 thick and you just set the width you want. Doesn't look strong tho, and prob won't do metric....

Might head out today on my weekly "targets of opportunity" run. Haven't looked at the weeks estate sales yet. Got some sold stuff to ship, and might as well take the YS money with me.....

Good hunting everyone!

Picked these up. Redhead Hickory RH-2 wooden hammer, Craftsman screwdrivers and wrench, not sure on the needle nose but they are marked Bell Systems, Challenger pliers, Williams Adjustable wrench. Wizard ratchet (not familiary with this company, USA made), Champagne deadblow, Stanley cotter pin puller (or it might have been a user bent awl), funky pliers, no clue at all what they are designed for, made in Taiwan, lightweight, aluminum I think...any clue what they are used for? Coiled extension cord. Also got some other not quite tool stuff. I was happy with the purchase.

A few finds:

A trio of Stihl 026's w/bars,chains and lots of misc. (2 Benjamins for the lot)

I know what a Foredom is but this one has a transmission in the rear and the pad goes in and out. It's medical related. The shaft can also be connected to the front for normal rotary operation. ($5)

A bunch of Xcelite precision screwdrivers for $.25/ea:

Holy cow! The 026 is my favorite size saw! I have two. I want a 034 or 036 for my chainsaw winch.

I made a score today at a garage sale,
I got this Wilton Cadet vise, a craftsman 3/4" ratchet, a SK 1/4" hand drive, a Napa swivel head 1/4" ratchet and a Williams 1/4" hand spinner for $40.

Question; The Wilton Vise needs jaws. Where can I get them?

John

Still a bit too cold for the garage sale season to start in the Pacific Northwest, but the signs are starting to pop up on street corners, so it may be soon. I hope to have my own sale mid June. But no tools! Sorry, but they are all mine! MINE!

Well, okay, I'll get rid of a dead radial arm saw, and a cheapy import full tool set in a blow mold case.
