Old cool concrete shop ..

Hi, My name is Torben, live in Denmark, working on race cars and have done so for over 20 years. Finally, I found a nice workshop, it needs a little cleaning :)
It is an old concrete factory which closed 25 years ago. I've rented it for now and we are negotiating a purchase :D

Wow. What a fantastic old building though it occurs to me that I might be biased by it's former use. A restoration/build thread would be epic. Reminds me a lot of one of the best all time GJ threads - the Restored 1930s Auto Shop. Good luck on your negotiations.

Looks like an abandoned gold mine to me.

Looking forward to seeing your progress.

I did. 135 photos. Many are quite artistic.

Fellow I met once bought a place covered with junk. It sold cheap because no one wanted to bother with it. He cleaned it up hauling the junk to the scrapper. Over time he got it all moved out and just about paid for it (the place) with proceeds. With scrap prices what they are today I'm not sure you can find that kind of deal anymore.

Wow! After looking at the pictures, you have nothing but gold on the property. I think you may have a new job as a dealer in Industrial Art. Good luck with your shop.

Hi Torben, thanks for sharing the awesome pics. Love all the cool shots and got a good laugh out of the comic strip and the "better drivers" joke. :spit:

What part of Denmark are you in?

You can send that light to me. That's pretty cool!!!

And you sir, have your work cut out for you. but it'll be a cool place when fixed up. Hopefully you can get it for a good price.

Is the Dodge truck yours, and what is the station wagon under the tarp?

If you buy it, does all the scrap metal stay with it? If it does, do you have places close that you can scrap metal out?

I think that is all for my questions now.

AND IF ANYONE MISSED IT ABOVE HERE IS TORBEN TSS's LINK TO HIS PICS http://tssshoppen.blogspot.dk/

The main reason we need a new workshop is this.

The other questions :)
Buildings is approximately 5300 sq ft and yes they are very masive, the locals call it one of Hitler's lead bunkers ..
The walls are not concrete but something like ash cement blocks with leca in.
The ceilings are insulated but not floors and walls
The Audi toolbox is actually a fridge :)

This is from Google map

And this is from the late sixties , i think :)
At its best worked 28 man at the factory , the owner was a total psychopath and a real ******* by his people .
He is dead now so maybe Ill meet him on a dark evening :)

Of course I am sorry about everything that we clean up and change on the ground. For not all be lost forever, we contacted work history museum which was very enthusiastic. They came just before Christmas, a photographer and a journalist. They would try to gather as much information about the place that hopefully they could make a small book about the place an life here :)

I have taken some new, not so edited fotos.

Hard to tell from the angle but this looks like a new steel 32 Ford Victoria coupe. Is someone in your part of the world making them?

I thought the laws in Denmark made it almost impossible to own and drive a hot rod there.

Its a normal 5w coupe with no topshop , yet :)
http://jocar.se/ in sweden make them now .

It is very complicated to get homemade cars approved and it costs an arm :)
There are among others run tests and strength calculations on the chassis and suspension components .
But it can be done and there are a good handful around here.

Another awesome thread! It's so cool that you had them document the factory before you started your repairs and upgrades. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Thanks :)
Yes I know it is a huge work and that it would take several years. The alternative is to build a new shop where we are now, but it will be at least as expensive and we would not be able to work there while we build.
The soul which is in the old buildings are priceless :)

Idea for the new front i just made in Google sketchup..
A cool program for us who do not understand autocad :)

There is not much to tell here, we are busy in the shop so unfortunately there is not much time for restoration. But we have been cleaning a lot :), we have for example been running almost 100 tons metal junk away. We've also got broken Down some walls for the new entrance . There would be 5 meters from floor to ceiling and under the ceiling would I make and hang a oldschool front engine dragster with halogen spot lights on :)
