I...um...finished painting my bicycle helmet with materials scrounged from the rattlecan shelf.

It's not much but I have 4 kids under 7 years old

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

started on my new larger electrolytic de ruster set up. Got the cart and lid built and primed. I'm wondering if there is enough interest in these things to have a build thread.

Replaced the door handle and lock cylinder on my victimized F150. It gave me the chance to put key the lock to the factory key.

Nice stacker and toter, since you're not a drag racer, you visit Mid-Ohio much ?
Yes, matter of fact we go up to Mid-Ohio tomorrow to run a test day and a SCCA Double National this weekend. Then we are back up there in 2 weeks for the Grand-Am race, we run a Honda Civic in the ST class.

If you ever get to Western Canada and need a pit crew... and by "pit crew", I mean a guy asking every 3 minutes, "Can I drive it", let me know
I can always use help raskal but don't get to Western Canada at all. We do race at Mosport every so often.

Well, it wasn't today but it dawned on me I forgot to share these bad boys. They're my first six-color custom valve covers for a guy in Illinois with a GTX ...

Big block Mopar Performance valve covers in Silver Glaze, Polar White, Manhattan Blue, Flag Red, Wetstone Black and Sea Water Teal, and of course the obligatory "before" picture. :D

I have to tell ya'll that I've always been my own worst critic. But these were VERY hard to wrap up, put in a box and give to the UPS guy.

Haha... Yeah today I started working on my portable air compressor out in the warehouse, it took me all of 10 seconds to realize why am I sweating balls out here when I can roll it into the tool room (that is A/C'ed)... Not to mention all my tools were much closer... ;)

Those look great. Not as good as the legs in your signature photo, but it's tough to beat God's work. :) Mike

Waved goodbye to a washer and dryer I've been saving for College Boy. He's moving into a new house this weekend. Glad to re-claim the floor space in my garage...I've been holding those for him for months. :rocker:

Split the cases on a 99 yz250 for a friend of mine. Found the crank bearing was seized. Will put it back together when he gets all the parts tomorrow.

Got a little bored today and decided to make a stand for my HF portaband. I know its not the best saw but with the 20% coupon discount, it being on sale, and the last of my B-day gift card, I only paid $33 for it. Spent another $30 on steel and misc stuff. Ive been itching to use the new welder for something other then just practicing running beads. It can convert back to a portaband in about 3 minutes.
I want to make a thicker work surface for it but ill do that later on.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

just wow, how long did they take

Thank you Johnny! :D The castings -- brand new from Jeg's by the way -- were in pretty good shape on these and only took a couple hours of bodywork. I don't have his invoice in front of me but will tell you that even with a special order powder (the Mopar turquoise, Sea Water Teal), they were under $325. So at my hourly rate, there's about 9.5 hours into them.

:D Awwww, thanks 1953mercury!! I've done a bunch of 2- and 3-color valve covers over the years but these were my first in 6 colors. I have a feeling they probably won't be the last either ... they're proving to be immensely popular and have generated almost two dozen requests for quotes in the last couple of weeks.

Thank you both for the nice compliments!! It's stuff like that that keeps me inspired to greater things. < big curtsey >

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Thanks!
I used about 5 1/2 feet of 1'' square tubing for the base that is 12'' square and the backbone is like 16'' tall then just scrap 1/8'' i had laying around for the mounts. The work surface is 16 gauge and its about 8x11. The plate needs a little tweaking to level it out but its not very far off. I welded 3 tabs on the bottom to bolt it down to the bench but it doesnt move all that much when you cut on it.
I'll take a few more pics later today with the saw out of it because I'm painting it right now.

EDIT: here it is

Using some HDPE cutting board material I cut, routed, drilled and finished a PC925 battery mount to fit in the 911 only to crack it when I was tightening down the hold down bracket. :shocking:

Finally got my wife's Ninja 250 running well. Now to convince her to register it instead of sell it.

started to clean up an old no-name vise I picked up from a grizzly old guy. Not worthy of photos, not a price that anywhere resembles 'you ****' categories. It is yellow.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Replaced the Struts and The Lower Control Arms on my Wife's Chevy Cobalt.
It only had 27,000 miles on it, but it looks to be a Real Issue out there.
So I upgraded to a solid Aluminum part instead of the welded Steel piece.
The Main Rear Bushing Rips loose and Clunks on every bump.
We also Upgraded to 17" Rims and Tires.
It sure rides Nice Now!

Re-worked the welding cart to hold the newly arrived oxy-prop setup.
http://garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=3146094&postcount=49

Cleaned up a piece of train rail that had been sitting around in my neighbors yard for a few years and then in mine for the last two. Didnt do anything but wire wheel and a shot of Kyrlon Dual. I was all prepared to fully grind out the defects and taper an end but there was too much character in the original patina I just couldn't bring myself to it.
