It's been a long time coming and a ton of work, but it's finally here. The new Garage Journal features a ton of new features and a whole new look. As we are just launching this version, there is bound to be a few bugs and problems, but hang in there with us as we work them out!

What's new?

1. User Profiles
This is probably the largest new feature that we added. With the new user profile pages, you can now host your own photo galleries, join and form social groups (more on that later), and form "friends" similar to myspace.

Admittedly, the "friends" functionality is a little juvenile, but I decided to run with it as it could have pretty cool effects later in the game.

To see some of these features in action, check out my personal profile.

2. Social Groups
This feature is not quite complete yet, but it's far enough along to get folks going on it. Essentially, groups are profile pages for a group of people with a common interest. A good example would be a car club. Clubs can create their own groups, invite their members, and completely control their group page content with galleries, messages, etc... Again, this feature will be pretty incredible once it's fully blown out. Until then, it's just kind of cool.

You can see the Central Texas Area group (in its infancy as I haven't had time to invite all the vendors yet) here:

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/group.php?groupid=1

3. Inline Images
You can now post images inline with your posts instead of just at the bottom of the post. To do so, simply click on the paperclip icon (
attach.gif
) when creating a post. The upload window will popup and you will be allowed to upload images. Once done, close the window. Now, whenever you want to place an image in your content, simply click the arrow (
menupop.gif
) located next to the paperclip icon and choose the image you want to appear in the content.

Obviously, there are quite a few more new features in this release but I think the above are the biggest. In time, I'll try to get tutorials done on how to use all of them... until then, check out the FAQ if you have questions.

And again, please excuse any bugs or problems you run upon. We are still actively working on things. In fact, the forums might be a tad slow for a day or two until we get things optimized.

Thanks and enjoy!

Nice job!!! I don't want to sound like I'm complaining, or maybe I'm missing something, but can I change the background color somehow. Not fond of pale blue. LOL!!! I don't see where I can do it. Other than that.....

Wow. A bit harsh, don't ya think?

What's there to steal from a public board anyway - I mean the entire site is based on contributions from the public so what's actually considered "property"?

Sorry for the diversion. Just a curious observation.

That's a joke. We are a bit tongue and cheek over here... We've used that tag on all of our pages for years. :)

Whyyyyyyyyyyyyy :headscrat :lol_hitti

Simply because I said so... and I'm the boss! :)

Kidding... You are stuck with the baby blue because that's the color combo I decided to go with and I have no plans to develop an alternate look and feel. Sorry homie... Hopefully, you will get used to it. I'm quite fond of it actually.

Thanks Ryan,
I don't want to get mushy but I think I lub what you've done to the place.

BTW, the background color is very close to the PPG Silver Lining that I painted the majority of my shop with - so it feels like home to me.

We're so glad you all are enjoying it!

It's been a long process but one we were committed to. Our members are what make this place what it is and it's our goal to make sure you have some great internet 'tools' to play with...

As Ryan mentioned before, bear with us as we continue to work out the bugs. Have a good time looking around the new place!

Really awesome!

I went ahead and made a Volkswagen Aircooled Group since that is what I am into and also updated my profile and made an album with pics of my VWs.

Thanks for the cool additions to the site.

Just an aside- I posted a group photo from a moto ride on a forum. Within hours, someone had taken it from that post and used it as the landing page of a moto-adventure website. Because it looked so cool. The ride had nothing to do with the business.

Just because it's published somewhere online does not grant others the right to repurpose it elsewhere. Public Domain is a specific legal term, and nothing here qualifies for that. Like when the floor guy takes a member's image and modifies it for his purposes- very uncool, and technically a copyright violation.

Back to the real subject...
