I'm looking to do either RaceDeck or Kiwi tiles on my garage floor and I had some questions...

1. Are the tiles durable? Could I get 10 years out of them?

2. Do they ever squeek or are they pretty noiseless?

3. Are the convenient with respect to cleaning up spills?

4. Is there other flooring I should consider?

:) Thanks for the advice and suggestions...

I don't see why they would not last forever, mine are 4 years old and still look great

2. Do they ever squeek or are they pretty noiseless?
They do not squeak but you will hear a "click" with each step, think of high heels on a wood floor or like that, not bad.

3. Are the convenient with respect to cleaning up spills?
Absolutely easy and no staining

4. Is there other flooring I should consider?
LOTS the search button on this site is your friend, there are LOTS of others out there.

I'll agree with everything Mike said. I bought them for the look and the ease of installation. My garage is 475 square feet and it took me, alone, about four hours including cutting all the edge pieces and a beer break or two. The only durability issue I have had is with jack stands with "angle iron" feet. They will actually cut through the tile. I have gotten around this by using 1/8" diamond plate panels under the jack stands.

Thanks Mike. Why did you decide on RaceDeck? Was it appearance, price, etc.?

Can't ask me that question

I chose Racedeck because of price and price only. At the price they offered me the tile, I made sure they did not have the time to change their mind

But I am NOT sorry I got the tiles even if I had paid retail it would have been worth it.

Please talk about the deals your getting or have gotten. What's the price? The best pricing I have seen on Race Deck is $3.00 per sq foot. Thanks for the information.

Yes! Numbers please.

What about spills? Like if you spill oil on the floor and get it in the seam between tiles? Can you pop out the affected area to properly clean it?

last summer it seemed most people were paying about 2.50 a tile plus-or-minus.

Pulling up tiles to clean between the seams is awfully hard, I am told you can pull up a tile in the middle of the floor but I sure hope I never have to, it seems to be near impossible. What you have to do is stick a broom handle in one edge and pop up all the tiles until you get to the bad one and then put everything back down. Well guys, you only have available edge, the one at the garage door, you might have to pull up half the floor.

When I spill oil, I clean it up and a few times I spilled enough to get into the seams, I knew it was there because I kept getting oil stains on the seams that "oozed" out an inch or so from the seam, it would get dirty and show up for weeks. I had a choice, 1. ignore it since it is after all a garage floor, or 2. pull up the floor and clean the seams but it is a garage floor after all. I chose, pour half a quart of laquer thinner on the seam and walk out until the smell went away (5-10 minutes) and then ignore it and enjoy my clean floor.

if laquer thinner is not "properly cleaned", you could try Acetone or MEK, it wont harm the tiles. Stay away from Gasoline :)

All you have to do to pull a tile out of the middle of the floor is to insert a thin, stiff piece of metal (I used a scraper) into the joint on the hook side (as in the hook and loop attaching system) of the tile you want to remove. Pry up. Do this again a few inches to the left and right. After you've popped five or six hooks and loops, you can unzip the joint far enough to get the tile out. Works like a charm and goes back together just as easily.

After my incident with the jackstands, it took me less than five minutes to replace eight tiles.

I have been an end user of Sportcourt Daytona tile for years and love it. A combination of Sportcouts Daytona tile and Xyon tile makes an extremely attractive, durable, easy to clean tiled surface. I have a working garage with spills and blocks on the floor every weekend. never any problems and the tile is much cheaper than my compettitors at .50 less per tile.
