We're getting ready to move to Ft. Worth shortly. I am amazed at the number of power companies to chose from. Do any of you Texans have any comments on which ones offer the best service?
Thanks in advance. We are looking forward to our new home
(and garage)

Stream energy, whom I rep for, has one of the best rates I've seen.
My website is www.powerhouston.org, it redirects to my Stream home site.
Click on Enroll for service and put in your zip code. It will give you the rates from there.
For zip 76101, 6 month plan is 11.4 cents per KW hour, 1 year is 11.9, month to Month is 13.5. You can email for any questions from the website or it has my cellphone to call me.
Thanks, Curtis
I hope this doesn't misread as advertising, I'm just responding to a question posted.

I live in N. Fort Worth and I dont have a choice. I live in a non-deregulated area, although I have no complaints about my electric provider. It's a co-op and the kwh price is better than most electric providers.

Check this website out for more info. http://powertochoose.com/_content/_compare/compare.aspx

edit: I've heard bad things about Amigo Energy. Just saying.

Co-Op's always have better rates, because they are run by the people, for the people. They're not out to make a killing like the others, but each user is usually like a shareholder and consequently any profit the company sees goes directly to the consumer in the form of a lower rate.

Actually, in Texas we have some of the highest rates in the nation since deregulation.
No since paying any more than you have to.

We're moving close to Haslet. Is that anywhere close to you? I looked at a couple of site and they want an ASI ID for the address. I'm trying to find out what that is.
Thanks for the tip on Amigo, thats the type info I was looking for.

Several years ago, Georgia decided to deregulate natural gas in the Atlanta area. Prices skyrocketed after that. Typical of government.

We live in Springtown (30 miles NW of Ft Worth) and have Tri-County Coop. They've been really great to work with, and their rates are pretty reasonable.

Since the original poster found his answer, I thought i'd share this with everyone else...

Like one guy mentioned, go to www.PowertoChoose.org
Rates change every 15 days... first of the month, then the fifteenth/sixteenth.
"winter rates" seem to be substantially cheaper then summer rates, so now is the time to lock in a rate, unlike me, who signed up in August. Woops.

There are a few scam energy companies in Texas (3 at LEAST), so please do your research. I believe Ambit energy is one, as you have to become a member, then recruit other members to join, but please research first.

Compare rates, and watch your terms very closely.

The longer you can settle in to a contract, it might be better, even if for a little more money. My rate went from $.12/kwatt to $.18/kwatt at the end of my 12month contract with less then 1 months notice of rate change. I had to change companies to get a better deal, where I locked in at $.14/kwatt for 3 years. I still like to watch the rates though, just in case.

For my area, (your area may vary), I've used and liked "reliant energy", and now "Startex".
