I started lurking here in January. I thought I should post something significant. Yes, I come from HAMBland. Dont be afraid, we are not here to assimilate :bounce:

This is the new shop/apartment my wife and I are building. Pole/strawbale construction. 2800+ square feet, much of it is shop. My wife has her own workspace, there is room for 4-5 cars and all my bicycles. I gotta get going, our current house just sold!

Also is a pic of my 27 Ford that I built, it needed a cushy home.

A little more info. I am building the shop 99 percent myself with the help of a couple pals, my dad, brother wife etc.......Our local codes allow for a person to do this, even electrical and plumbing. We are running a 200 amp panel with plenty of room to grow. A pal of mine teaches electricians at the local tech and is there when I have any serious questions. That part greatly exceeds code.

None yet, the walls are still raw and there is no drywall on the inside partition walls. I will post updates as I go. I really dig this site, I actually lurked here as far back as 03?

Hence my question mark. It was a while back, somone on the HAMB linked a cool garage post from here. Doesnt matter, this is a cool forum to talk about shops!

I will post plenty of pics, and, I will do a tech piece on stained concrete floors, I hate paint!

Is that a 348 or a 409??

Note the dipstick location, it is a 348 punched out to 358. Car is for sale right now but if I dont sell it I am changing out the Tri-power for a single 4bbl. That pic was at last years HAMBdrags in Missouri, the 4bbl should be good for a few tenths if not a 1/2 sec? We had no traction, the track was redone the week prior it ran a 14.91, I hope to see low 13s.

Where do we go to learn about pole/straw bale?

thanx, mike

do an online search for Strawbale construction. Ironically the info online isnt as good as you think. I just went ahead and started buying books 10 years ago. I have a dozen or so now. Every once in a while Mother Earth News or Natural Home will run an article. Fine Homebuilding covered it back in 83.

For the record, I was trained in traditional stick built construction. This stuff has some solid points when you get into the details.
