I am getting ready to insulate my garage and need some tips. I have bonus room trusses upstairs so I need to insulate the ceiling. I have ridge vent and vented soffits, do I need any special venting between the insulation and roof sheeting?
Thanks, Dan |

You will need to maintain airflow between the soffit vents and the ridge vents. I'm guessing the truss has a 2x4 top chord? I would think you'd need those foam vent thingies installed before the insulation. You definitely don't want to stuff the area full of insulation.

Attic rafter vent baffles.
Will the garage or bonus room be heated? If so you will need a vapor barrier as well, hopefully they installed that prior to the garage ceiling?? |

Check your depth of the bonus room trusses. Make sure you can get R-30 in there with a vent tray. You may need to pad the bottom of truss down to get the required depth.
Bonus rooms get very hot from solar gain - I have one and it is less than ideal. |

Where are you suggesting the vapor barrier go? On the bonus room ceiling or across the garage ceiling?
