Wow - not easy to do a van project and see it through, then keep it for a while!! Great job on it. But no views inside the back - is there a bed or what? Do you use it for more than driving?

Thanks for the thumbs up! Here's a couple pics of the inside. I drive the van all over the country to van and car shows, and yes, I actually sleep in it. Much cheaper than a hotel room!

Here is my last couple of projects. I used to do a car a week or so and got out of it for almost 17 years until I was in a couple of fender benders (neither was my fault) After 17 years it is a whole new learning curve. I was cutting teeth on Lacquer paint jobs, then graduated to Single Stage Centari, then Imron. I quit painting when BC/CC was becoming real popular. So to say, I learned quite a bit lately. But it's not as enjoyable as it was back then. I guess it seems more like work now. LOL!!!! The next project in line is redoing my '00 GMC Jimmy. It will probably get a complete color change also.

BTW...sctatooer..........Love the van  I'd like to find one in decent shape and redo it. Slowly I think some of the older vans are making a comeback. I have been seeing quite a few lately. Nice job on the redo:beer:

Since then I've updated to Porsche 5-bolt wheels and rebuild all the suspension and brakes. Lots of fun. I'm considering it preparation for my Chevy 5-window build.

re: my 914 - yeah - one go. base coat / clear coat. reverse masked the logo - sprayed the red, applied the logo, sprayed the yellow - peeled off the sticker and cleared the whole thing in one day. The local Navy base has an auto hobby shop with a spray booth!! $25/ day.

The front valence was a little loose there...I have a different air dam on there now. I still had the "paint wheels" on it then too.

Daryl, you're getting pretty good with those flames!

Here's a Race car just finished, it should be leaving friday for test and tune, and racing for the first time this weekend. The teardrop was increased in size as the original from Crites was hitting the carb...oops...

What is the paint code for that Orange? It is a beautiful color with that leather.

Thanks.

I have not had the pleasure of trying too much body work or paint, but I was at SEMA this year, and would like to share some of the paint highlights that I saw while there. Hopefully this will spark some ideas within you creative folks.

Carbon fiber hood on new Camaro. Looks like a candy orange over carbon. Neat look:
DSC05016.jpg

Trunk of an older Mustang. Looks like they put a nice finish on the steel, then taped off and sprayed the color, then put quite a few coats of clear over the whole thing, and wet sanded smooth (look at reflected light right on the stripe). This was amazing. Could not feel any paint ridges, but could see the layers of paint when looking at an angle:
DSC04768.jpg

There were a lot of flat paintjobs. I really like this look, but don't know what maintenance on this paint is like:
DSC04793.jpg

Airbrushed wood grain:
DSC04798.jpg

More flat paint:
DSC04806.jpg

Nice 2-tone:
DSC04851.jpg

Converted Camaro:
DSC04877.jpg

Nice 2-tone coloring:

Blue Flames:

Lime green Lambo:

This was in the House of Kolor booth. They had an amazing booth of pure artwork. This is a metal trash can, and it looks like they took a grinder to the metal followed by a candy orange. I really want to do this kind of paint job:

More HOK:

Another Custom:

Amazing airbrush work on some bikes:

DSC04739.jpg

This, to me, looks like gold leaf topped by a candy. It could also be some of that special paint by Alsa Corp or HOK topped by a candy:
DSC04521.jpg

More Art (this was even extended onto the dash and other interior components):
DSC04555.jpg

And, who needs paint?:
DSC04475.jpg

I don't mean for this to take away from the many members of this Forum that have the talent to do this. I just wanted to share some beautiful paint, and hope to give an idea here and there.

How do they do it with paint? Is it a special paint or airbrushing? To me, this looked exactly like they put the finish on the metal. In person I could see the 3 dimensional scratches on the steel. I create high quality finishes on wood and metal for a living, and to me, this was a very nice finish on metal (it looked like they took a Very Fine Scotchbrite Pad on a belt sander or something of the sort to produce this finish). I didn't think that you could clear right over steel without doing some kind of prep to the metal, but I am not a pro. I would love to hear the other ways of doing this.

Correct, when I saw it done they took a gray scuff pad mounted on a piece of wood and drug it down the silver base. From what I saw you need to have the exact same pressure on it everytime you swipe it and use the same speed. He said if you mess up you start all over by reapplying the base and going from there. A very neat looking trick but it must take a good deal of pratice for good results.

Hmmm, that makes sense. I wouldn't have thought to do it that way, but I am not a paint/body guy. That seems like a more professional way of accomplishing that. Thanks for the reply.
