I'd bet a few guys here either have done something like it, or will have some good ideas. Unfortunately, to access their prized minds, you'll likely have to ask this question in the Free-Parking section.....where everyone is wasting their time!

I have seen all kinds of modded ones.
But none built from scratch.
There are just too many shells out there to use as starting points.

I think the observation that it would be easier to rebuild/modify an existing frame is a solid one. Unless you have specific reasons for needing it build completely from scratch, I'd start with a non running mower and go from there.

This is one based on automotive parts
A friend bought it as an abandoned project 25 years ago, and we finished it off to a fully operational unit

Most of the parts came from an early 60's Leyland Mini, the FWD motor and transmission package mounted behind the seat. R&P steering and braking system.
The power take off for the cutting deck ( that was from a ride on) was driven off the harmonic balancer on the front of the crank shaft, and transmitted through an out board motor leg that converted the drive from a verticle to a horisontal so the belts would drive the cutting deck

It is due for a total rebuild next year
Was very quick on smooth surfaces, even though it had been geared down on the final drive

My cousin had 10 acres to mow but no tractor and brush hog so he welded three push mower decks together and pulled them behind his atv. He could do all the mowing in about an hr and it looked better than with a brush hog. Just couldn't let it go a week without doing it or it would get to tall and kill the motors.

The result of a couple idiots, O/A tanks, a balloon, a car and a little static electricity! They were lucky to survive.
