I know there's a policy against commenting on pricing in classified threads, but I wish it were allowed, especially when another user comments on how great or "fair" the price is.

So, I know it's unproductive to the harmony of the board, but I just wanted to say that I've sometimes been tempted to lob a friendly comment into the mix of a classified thread :bounce:

i find a lot of prices out there but of course one wants as much as they can get.........coupla other boards i'm on it's funny to see how often the final price is updated days later with a new final price and so on..........i know what i would be willing to pay for something locally so i don't bother too much with stuff that's not within driving distance.........still even locally most of it is a waste of my time 9 outtta 10 times........add in shipping, i just don't see why go thru the hassle............tools i can afford new and parts i buy rebuilt or new........not a collector so the claasifieds to me are moot.........as for me selling stuff, tried to in the past and found even throwing it out there for a ridiculously low price, most buyers are idiots that want it for free.......same at garage sales....had one once and destroyed an item in fornt of some goof that couldn't get thru his head that the price was firm..........funny watching him cry about he was just haggling and woulda given me what iwas asking........ahole wasted 1/2 an hour of my life.........

Tatra, what you are describing are normal processes. Why would you get mad at someone at a TAG SALE/GARAGE SALE over haggling? Around here, those prices are always negotiable. And, of course a seller puts a price on his items and then, a few days later if the stuff hasn't sold, adjusts the price. That's completely normal. How else would it be done? :headscrat

If you have a constructive coment for a seller, them PM him/her and make your case. The problem with comments in the thread, which usually just take the thread off topic, is that arguing over pricing doesn't benefit the seller. Sounds like from your comment about "how great or fair the price is", your intentions are to merely challenge someone elses opinion of the value of the item that's for sale.

bull, the price was marked as firm, no discussion..........the item was new old stock that i had bought for a decent price and the potential buyer knew it was a steal at what it was tagged for............he was just a pain in the *** as i had told him numerous times no i wouldn't negotiate..........only reason he wasn't turfed was his wife and toddler were having fun.............they were oldsmobile valve covers that were aluminum and painted..........i paid 50 bucks for them from another guy at a garge sale , no questions asked..........5 years later decide to let them go for 20 bucks..........idiot kept pestering me at 5 bucks and going up a buck or 50 cents .........after saying he refused budge at 17 i just took a sledge to them and told him to have them on the house.............for me it was the principle as icould have easily got that at a swap meet but don't really attend those as like auctions, they take up a lot of time and i can affford to pay retail and just get what i want............guys wife even said he desrved the treatment he got as in between his bids he would go ***** i was being unreasonable...................felt good as i didn't care if they went or not...........other stuff i haggled on after talking to the guys anfd found out waht they were doing with the stuff........guy seeemed like he was a reseller type..........rant over......

You guys can't let this stuff get too personal. It's an item for sale, if the price is too high for you, make an offer. I've sold a lot of stuff after the for sale post had faded to the back pages and a guy PM'd me with an offer. If the deal is fair, then go for it. If it's too low an offer than tell them no and move on. Don't let the sale ads ruin your day, life's too short for that!

I totally agree with this. When someone posts something that members would universally agree is too high, the lack of posts speaks volumes. And sometimes, lack of posts just means no one is in the market for that particular item.

But commenting on the prices of classifed posts publicly would make the classifieds a flamefest and nobody wants that.

Yes, I agree. My experience with your old threads in fact, is that I've e-mailed you and offered you what I considered a fair price. Sometimes you took it, and sometimes you countered. Good all around.

I was thinking more of when it appears to me that there are "shills" who comment on what a fair price an over-priced item is. I just wanted to have fun with it. I don't think it's personal for me. And by posting about it on this section of the site, I hope it's obvious I have no intention of doing so in practice on the classifieds:beer:

Pretty simple -

If you like the price, buy it

If you don't, move on

No need to **** on someones ad by voicing your opinion - what may seem like a high price to you may seem very reasonable to someone else .....
