I came across this Snap On box and was wondering what you all think it is worth? The seller is asking $200, I'm thinking about buying it

I've just talked to him between email, so I haven't seen the box first hand but he says it's an older model, but still very usable.

What questions should I ask him, or what should I look for if I check the box out in person?

Thanks

I like and have used both boxes, the top box with six drawers are really nice. It is a good price for amount of storage depending on the condition. If you are looking for a 26in wide tool box these were made for many many years and are very popular. Friction slides still work fine especially if you not working in a shop and pulling the drawers open hundreds of times every day.

Be careful of those old boxes with friction slides; they're not replaceable.

Not 100% true.. Yes they are spot welded on both the inside cabinet and the outside drawers. Where the problem lies is on the inside, Most rails are still available but without dimantling the outer shell of the box you can spot weld the new one in. But.... There are many other ways to fasten it and alot of them have been explored right here in this site.

What he has to say really doesn't matter. What matters is your impression of the boxes when you see them in person. If they're not beat to hell and the drawers slide well, $200 isn't out of the question. But unless you're prepared to clean up the boxes and do a repaint, you may want to pass....unless you don't really care what they look like and just want a place to store tools.

If you want them, I'm guessing it wouldn't be hard to get him to knock at least $25 if not $50 off the price.

Although the picture is small the box looks like it might just need a really good clean up. As already mentioned be sure to really look at all of the drawer slides.

Any other comments before I go pick up this box?

I think I'm going to offer him $150 and see if he takes it, but as long as all the drawers open freely and it's not too beat up, I'll still take it for $200

Just ditto on the slides.. as long as the drawers move freely and aren't binding up from being bent/misaligned then I'd buy em.

I have that bottom box and love it. For friction slides, the drawers are really smooth. If it was closer to me, I'd buy it myself.
