I just received a few taps in the mail from Matco to replace some missing from a set I had. Must be a new manufacturer. Now, the information is no longer engraved/stamped in the tap; it is printed on. It is VERY hard to read when brand new, and I'm sure will not do well over time. The "Use drill Size...." information is gone. The taps are no longer polished metal either; it's now a dull finish.

I don't get it...what the hell did they save here money wise? It certainly can not be much. And to what end?

I will say, fortunately, one of the things printed on the new tap design is USA...so at least we're not getting Chicom ****. But it certainly looks like a step down in quality.

I'd just order up some taps from Morse, Morse Cutting Tools are made in the USA and are very high quality. Only thing we used at the fabrication shop I worked at from 2003 - 2005.
