enco has been a good company to deal with (based on my experience) however their lower end stuff is often the same stuff you see at HF. some of their mid grade and high end stuff gets pretty nice

Hi,
I have had very good luck with my powermatic drill press. Other people have told me that they like the Jet drill press. I seem to recall that the people at jet have some special year end deal's you might want too check them out.

That looks like the generic Chi-Com "Chicago" drill press I bought about 15 years ago.

I replaced it with a 1940's vintage 20" Delta floor model that I paid $160.00 for on Fleabay... weighs as much as a Toyota...I'd wait and find a vintage Made in USA model.

Wrong!! That is a 1990's Enco 17" Taiwanese drill press and the castings are well finished with quality bearings. It's on par with Jet and other quality Taiwan manufactured equipment.

It includes a heavy duty 1/2HP industrial motor (real 1/2HP -- not a cheap imitation)
That design was produced for almost 30 years by Taiwanese firms and they compare well to quality US made presses.

Nope, Powermatic is owned by the WMH Tool Group, which also owns the Jet and Wilton brands.

Delta and Porter Cable are in bed together as part of the B&D empire, which joined the Stanley works this year.

Don't have one of their DP's but as far as I'm concerned ENCO is an excellent company to do business with.
Yes the cheap stuff is just that:) but they're good about standing behind it.
And as said they also have higher quality equipment and excellent prices.

Thanks for the imput. On the quest for a good, heavy duty Made inUSA drill press, the Enco (wasnt sure about made in the USA) was the best I could turn up in a 100 ish mile radius. I will keep looking. They have yet to respond. Thanks to this board, just any old drill press will never suffice!!!

Ok, Its mine. Its a 1988 model. In good shape, at least as heavy as a Toyota, just needs cleaned really well. I have crappy pics on my phone which I dont know how to get off and will be out there later in the week and will take some good ones. I looked for vintage made in the USA, but this will suit me well. its a 3/4 hp Westinghouse motor, 5/8 chuck, 17" is about the right size( I will measure) It has a light built into the casting and is a 16 speed.
