I was on the comp last night and thought what the hell. I love old gas stations and designing old style stations. So, this is my interpretation of our little service station...

Each number corresponds on a part of the blueprint.

I thought about a pit...but this is the garage of the 50s...all brand spanking new and updated...lol.

1. Washing/Lubrication Station: Equipped with high-pressure washing, waxing and complete upholstry cleaning, with a drive on lift this also doubles for as a place for very fast routine jobs.

2. Utility room: Is the back cone of the station and houses all the mechanicals including the system for radiant floor heat and hot water heater.

3. Rest Room: With double access the rest room has a cleaning crew tat travels from city to city that comes in once a week to ensure it is **** and span. Otherwise kept up by employees. Outfitted with the latest fixtures.

4. The Show Room: Equipped with multiple displays of tires and other automotive goodies there is also a set of storage racks against the back wall
with tire racks above for all the best tires for our customers. The floor is clad in green and white checkerboard pattern tile. Walls are enamelized aluminum sheets. Also a Coke machine sits in the far left corner.

5. A walk way for storage of other rolling diagnostic tools separates the main shop from the showroom. This has access from the front, back and both the showroom and the service area.

6. Repair Stall: Two post type lift as to allow complete access to the underside of the car. Containing all the up to date essential tools found in shops of 1951.

7. Fuel Island: Equipped with Wayne 100B gas pumps and an airhose. Equipped with Amoco's two finest grades it urges the buyer to "Stop at the Orange American Pump and give Orange American Gasoline a tryout."

8. Wayne 100B Pumps: Triple pumps will serve all the clientel.

9. Over head I-beam: Set in the roof to hold the weight of 3 brand new lubrication hose reels supplies gear oil, spring oil and water.

10. Oil dispenser: Supplies four types of oil including Amoco at the ready for our lubrication technician.

11. Main Glass Display Case: This holds all the small Automotive goodies plus candy for the boys and girls who visit with their parents. Also, handles the cash register duties on top.

12. Radiant Heat System: Supplies a flow of hot water to a grid of pipes beneath the concrete floor of the entire building.

13. Hot water heater.

14. Cabinets with tire rack: Displays the tires plus storage for all parts on hand.

15. Work bench: For disassembly of parts.

16. Two-post Style lift: Makes for entire access under cars.

17. Tire Balancer: Snap-on Static.

18. Grinder

19. Parts Washer

20. Electric Test Rig

When I took over my place there was a ton of old paperwork stored there. Amongst that there was blueprint plans for a late 40s-early50s gas station. I should scan and post those...

I would give you an A+ on what you have done! But now for the bonus point; #24 to add are the 2 long air hoses (one at each end of the drive) that when people arrived and drove over them & in turn that would cause a bell to "ding ding" that was mounted up on the side of the building.

Thinking of air, there should be an air dispenser for filling tires - it may be out by the pumps, but I used to see them more often right next to the garage door.

Maybe it's a regional thing, but around here the restrooms (two of them one for men and one for women) were typically around the side or in the rear of the station, with outside access.

Yeah, I forgot the hoses...doh. Now the bathrooms that is how I have seen most of them...but from my interpretation of the layout that is where I would guess. Then again maybe those are service entrances and there would be rest rooms around back.

I almost forgot, you need a vintage Coke machine in there someplace. :) Probably one of those chest style ones with the bottles hanging in a rack, not the upright style.

Since we're dreaming... Slight revision:

Rest Room: Double access. Cleaned by fairies. Said fairies are super hot women that are 5'4, 36-24-36 and wear French maid outfits. When the rest room has been fully cleaned, the fairy may take a shower behind the glass partition and then stick around to serve drinks and snacks. If the garage is currently occupied and operated by a female, the fairy can be Mr. Clean, however he must get his *** out of there upon the site being vacated by the female occupant.

I know you're in the design stage so you may want to consider an alternative heat system for the actual garage. Everyone seems to think that in-floor radiant systems are the cats pajamas but in fact they are a poor choice for a commercial site where the doors would be open several times a day. Check things out, you will see that these areas are almost always heated by a hot air furnace or gas fired radiant tube units.
