i don't understand how anyone can say 12 point sockets are crap they don't want, yet the pick up 12 point wrenchses and say oh yeah they work great. how is a 12 point socket differant than a 12 point wrench to justify the difference in opinion?

All of My shallow and Deep 3/8" and 1/4" drive sockets are 6pt and my Shallow and Deep 1/2" Drives are 12pt. Just kind of ended up that way. All SO. Never had any of them strip a bolt head (that wasn't already severely damaged). Only Chrome socket I've ever had split was a 6pt Cman.
I do wish SO made a 36mm 1/2" Drive socket in either 12pt or 6pt though. Having that one lone CMAN at the end of my SO sockets always makes me feel a little dirty. |

6 point hand sockets hold up way better on an impact than 12 point hand sockets.

Personally I prefer to use 12 point tools, but perhaps it's because of my experience using my fathers tools (he was an aircraft tech). |
