Sooooo my truck REALLY needed oil and the hood was REALLY stuck, so the situation called for drastic measures. Upon reflection, it may have been more beneficial to cut a hole around the latch mechanism so I could fix the problem at the source. Hind sight is 20-20, though. Duct tape saved the day and made my truck look way cooler than before. Enjoy.

Yes, it took two tries. Its probably better than you could have done. :D

Theres my oil cap! It's so handy to not have to go to the trouble of popping my hood now.

Come on; is that really your truck? Looks like the paint is nice, not a beater truck. If so, how could you have busted a hole in a nice hood?

The latch mechanisms are usually accessible from underneath.

I SWEAR that is my truck. The hood was actually the only "nice" part on it. It's a 2WD 1995 Ford Ranger with a reconstructed title, so its really not worth anything. I paid $500 for it.

Also, I had no idea how to fix the latch.

There's just no other way to say it: that's the most fucked up "fix" I've seen in a long time. At least submit it to http://thereifixedit.com/ so you will enjoy internet immortality.

Ummm thanks? lol I just submitted a copy and paste of my story to that website, so we'll see if they put it up I guess.

I want to see you change the spark plugs!

I'll have to invest in a good hole saw, I guess. :bounce:. The battery is what I'm worried about.....

well, whats wrong with the hood? you could have manually pop the hood out instead of putting hole on it.

If you pull the handle and have someone lightly pop the hood right over the latch they will usually pop loose. Then, when it's open, oil the latch.

Why not cut a hole where the latch is, so you can get the whole hood open?

I mean, if you're going to cut a hole anyway...

Well, I thought about that, but I didn't for two reasons. Number 1, I was in a huge hurry. Number 2, I wasn't sure that I could fix the latch if I did cut a hole. I'd rather the hood be stuck closed at this point than stuck open. Also if I didn't fix it, I would have still had to cut above the oil cap and that's just a lot of holes.

I've done some ******* **** but somehow i've never ever had the idea to do the that. Hood latches always seems easier than using duct tape.

You're so not touching my cars and trucks....

TheGrooveking

Maybe I work at your local mechanic garage and you don't even know..... :FIREdevil

How did you know if needed oil?

It leaks like a sieve and it had been a while since I'd put any in it. I've known the hood was stuck for a couple weeks, but then when the oil light started coming on when I went around turns, I knew it was time to take action.

This is awesome beyond words.

Nice color choice on the duct tape, compliments the red nicely.

No more automatic car washes for you.

Also - now you absolutely need to add a hood scoop to properly use that hole.

Still hoping this isn't your truck.

but if it is - how did you know where to cut the hole? Looks pretty dead on by the picture, unless the one hole is an oops?
