Air compressors are components. The motor, the pump, the tank. All from 3 different manufacturers. The most common ID is on the tank in the form of a decal as riveting a nomenclature plate on the tank would be really stupid. You may find the tank manu plate welded on the tank with a date.
So, if it get repainted, it gets tougher to figure out who sold it. I have found outlines of decals painted over on several machines that led to the discovery of what brand it was.
Old line cast iron pumps were made by Quincy and Kellogg American. But, they could be bolted up to a tank and called Binks or many other names.
