Wow! What a fantastic & unexpected rear view on your property! I love those windows:)

Looks like a good start-what's the time frame to get it completed?

As you know,we all love pictures so keep them coming!

Im in Nova Scotia , Canada. Thanks for the encouragement. I have a few pics from yesterday I will post.
Is that Eddie from Iron Maiden ? Its been awhile since Ive seen him. I think the last time was at The Retreat Pub in Reading. Or it could have been the cider, Cheers,

I thought you might like the original pics of the house. We (my brother and I) did the reno's 10 years ago.

It certainly is Eddie-I think it was Reading-although it could have been the cider in Reading LOL

I've just noticed the height difference from the back door to the garage floor, is this not going to be an issue when it comes to the upper floor?

I don't seen any saw cuts in the slab, is this not done in Canada? I see lots in the US builds....
I'm currently researching heating options, what have you gone for? I don't see any in-floor radiant heat pipe poking up from the slab.

The stairwell will take care of the door as it still has to go up another floor. There will be a wall between the garage and stairs, Im going to put headers in so I can add storage from the side and also put the compressor in there to cut down on noise
We are looking at a solar heat pump/electric baseboard , My preference here in Canada is a woodstove so I will add that as well.
We dont cut the slabs here, there is a 4 ' frostwall for those changes in temperature.

Thanks for the reply & the clarification on the expansion joints.

I'm not sure I quite get it about the wall between the garage & the stairs-will the upstairs only be accessed from the garage & remain unconnected from the house?

Update. Im starting the 2nd floor walls tomorrow. So tonight I have to decide on windows. My side walls will be around 6'4 with cathedral going up from there. I have an 8/12 pitched roof, wich means It is 6/12 on the inside. So I have to start them at least 2' inside the walls to allow for a header.
before that, here are some pics of where we are now.

Wow! That is some progess

I'm suprised you weren't required to build the new wing in the same angled style on the elavation that overlooks the lake-were no comments made on this by the town planning/local authority?

Thanks guys, I love it here too. Just thought I would add a tip. If you buy a lift and they deliver it to a warehouse. Get a tip load to deliver it to you. I paid 85 bucks and let me tell you, it saved alot of time and our backs as well. More pics tonight.

Stuck a Garage dog pic in too. Shingles yesterday and strapping complete. They should have planned on one more small roof truss. Would have made it alot easier. Had to build an addon to the wall and truss for insulation purposes.

The rear garage door is mostly glass so we made the flashing to match the window trim. The front garage door has overhead storage since the lift will never be over there.

Here are a few b4 and after type shots of the new trim. Here in Nova Scotia the vinyl holds up best to our major temperature changes and sometimes foul winters.
We added a piece of clad to the bottom of the windows to make it look right. There was something missing when we were experimenting with the new trim. That break sure is getting alot of use.
we obviously didny get them all done , but im happy so far with it. Anyway thanks for taking a peek.
