Like many, discovering this site led to a tool-buying addiction in this DIY-er/hobbyist. The 8-drawer Craftsman roll-away I bought 9 years ago and the three-drawer hand box perched atop it quickly overflowed. So I had my eyes open for a budget-friendly top box. First one I saw was at a tool-centric garage sale. For $15 I had a well-abused 1983-vintage Waterloo 6-drawer unit that was once owned (and painted) by a snowmobile enthusiast.
I disassembled it and straightened as much as possible with my limited skills, then took it down to bare metal for the second time in its life. The body is Rustoleum Hammered Gray, the drawers are Rustoleum 2X Key Lime. Drawer handles, lock, and emblem were all too badly pitted to save the plating, so I just primed and painted them Rustoleum Charcoal Gray. I'm surprised they turned out as well as they did... Once painted, I bolted it to the top of the aforementioned Craftsman cabinet in the hopes it would straighten out. The drawers all work acceptably, though the bottom one takes quite a bit of force to get all the way out.
I'm pretty happy with the result, even if it still isn't the nicest box in the world. The visible dings will just have to be "character marks." It taught me a lot, and I look forward to tackling my PowerKraft set when the weather improves.
