Ok,

Your sick of putting tiny pictures into your posts or crunching them down so the attachment feature on this board will accept it. But you want the world to see your new Snap on Impact wrench in all its grandeur but don't know how.

Number #1 - You have to link your photos in using a photo link site. No other way.

Here is how you do it with Photobucket.

When you link in your photos with Photobucket you are not constrained by photo size like an attachment, and don't have to be logged in to the Garage Journal see the photo in your post. This tutorial is all linked to Photobucket photos. (As are all my pictures that I use in my posts)

The service is FREE!!! and takes only about 3 minutes to set up an account! So get out there and start posting your large photos of your goodies for all of us to see!!!

BTW - There are other photo linking services, but I will cover how to do it on Photobucket.

Step 1
. Get an account with Photobucket.

http://photobucket.com

I named my account the same as I did my screen-name here for easy reference and just to be able to remember it. Blacknwhitepit

Step 2. Select the photo you want to use. If you already have the photo saved on your computer skip to Step 3. If you want to use something from a website, most times you can right click on it and scroll down to where is says

Save Picture As

or

Save Target As

Select a destination folder or desktop and save the photo.

like so:

demo21.jpg

Note that I saved the file as a JPG under the name Snap on Example photo in the Example Folder

Step 3. Log into the Photobucket website and load the photo into Photobucket like so.

Here comes the fun part!

demo8-2.jpg

Step 4. Now come back to the Garage Journal and post your message!
When you want to put in a picture do the following:

demo9.jpg

******* NOTE - The script for the picture will pop up where your cursor is! *************

demo12-1.jpg

******* NOTE - The script for the picture will pop up where your cursor is! *************

NOTES:

This photo was small to begin with. Other JPG's will come out as different sizes. Your personal photos should show up in full screen.

This is a very simplified way of doing it, you can save multiple pictures with Photobucket at once.

Also I am running Windows Vista, your screens may look different, but the actions should be the same.

Whole screen shots are done with the function(FN) or control (CTRL) and printscreen buttons held down together on your computer (Depends on the computer). I then open up Microsoft Powerpoint and right click paste them in, then save them as JPG's. There probably is an easier way to do this, but this works for me.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Good post.

I simply take large photos and then reduce the image size down enough to where I can upload it directly to the forums as an attachment. I use Irfanview for this. The attachment shows as an "attached thumbnail" and when you click on it you get the full size photo.

Example below:

Attached thumb nails are more user friendly. The board morphs to the width of the large pictures and you can't actually see the whole thing at once.

Thanks for the info on photobucket. I have no problem putting the picture in. My problem is with many pictures. Wouldn't it be better to link people to an album with the info rather than to bring the photos back to garage-journal. Is that acceptable in Garage Journal?

Just a note. If you have a lot of photos on Photobucket or if you have a lot of traffic to those photos you can exceed your bandwidth for the free account and the photos won't show for the rest of the monthly period.

Good post.

I simply take large photos and then reduce the image size down enough to where I can upload it directly to the forums as an attachment. I use Irfanview for this.

I take it one step further, as I hate using online photo repositories - I understand their usefulness, but they are a friggin hassle to me - after reducing the size (I use 600X800, it keeps plenty of detail and it doesn't require scrolling to see it all) I upload to this site, to my "garage" album, then I link the photo in my post the same way you would for a photo you want to link off the net - very easy and clean.

Here's an example, my buddy's Mini Cooper trucklet on our way from Georgia to KC
