Hi All.
Not sure if anyone can advise........

I have a sit 'n' ride mower, B&S 11.5hp which is fine, the rest of it is GGP & put together in Italy. It's 5 years old and has to cope with about an acre. Bought from one of those big chain DIY stores.

I used it yesterday, all fine. Used it today it got to one 'fill' of the collector, drove to my ditching point, then went to set off, engaged gear, clutch up & I was going no-where:sad: (The blades will still engage).

Having looked a little, I find I can engage any gear, motor running and I can push it fore & aft!

Motor off, I can do the same, although it makes a 'metalic' sound whern 'in gear' and pushed.

I'm guessing its gonna be a clutch or gearbox job:dunno:, which if yes then its probably a write off.....

All advice, suggestions welcome.

there may be a broken keyway on the pulley that turns the trans or the belt might have popped off, I know you said the belt was there but on some mowers there is a belt that is kinda hard to see up under the seat.

Yeh, it is hard to see. I lifted it onto my car ramps to look earlier. There is a massive 'plate' on the rear in front of the collector. I reckon I need to remove that to really see what's what....

Take a look for a spring that connects to a pulley that is just hanging looose. That spring connects to the frame or somewhere solid. That spring is used to provide tension on the pulley which tensions the belt. I had an old mower that would do that to the blade belt. I know its different circumstances but maybe something related. Remember start from easiest/cheapest first and work up. I wouldn't pull the gearbox just yet...

I don't like the idea it will roll in any gear. The transaxle has a differental in it and when in gear, shouldn't spin threw. There is no engine breaking on that set up. What happens if you jack the rider up and try to drive it. I'm wonder if an axle shaft let loose and the differental is just spining the free shaft since there is no load on it. If you find any problem with the rear end itself, you are most likly looking at replacing the rear end. Many are non servicable, many hydros nowaday are "sealed for life" and you can't even check or fill the hydro fluid. Good luck.

Righto, I've had a look at this beastie...... and my old Volvo 240 wagon is much easier to work on :lol_hitti

Anyway, I don't think it is a gear box or clutch issue  If I put it in gear and spin the pulley on top of the box/diff by hand it moves forward in all gears & in reverse gears it goes aft'.

So I think it is a belt issue. It is not snapped, but very close to it! It has shredded some where up front, maybe around the drive pulley. A bit of an PITA' to get too.....:eyecrazy:

Fingers crossed!

Well, I got the belt off eventually. Done some research and apparently it is a Kevlar reinforced belt. I have found a supplier bearingboys in Norfolk (UK). The new belt is on its way as I type. £28 or so delivered. Gotta be worth a go at that price.......
