Hey all, Newbie alert.
Names Shaun Young. My car club brothers call me Krupanut because I play the drums and I dig Gene Krupa. Hence the user name. Old member of the Hamb and a big fan of all Ryan's undertakings. I've been lurking here awhile and finding tons of inspiration. With the tough economy and Momma with out a full time position for over a year due to said economy, I recently reorganized my garage with a one simple rule. Spend the least amount of money possible. Here's an itemized run down: Solid wood work benches , book shelves and metal cabinet, free. Got em from the day job when we moved to a new facility. Baby blue paint: left over from a kitchen project 10 years ago. Light Baby blue paint: Mix old baby blue with old white paint from 10 years ago. Cabinet doors and wall shelves: free. Lumber as found in the rafters at home and the trash pile behind the new office, warped MDF and ply wood. Air tool cabinet, free. as small found on the corner the day before big trash pick up, book case with added warped MDF doors and peg board Bike rack: cheapo strut from the Depot $15.00 Door handles and hinges: $15.00 Pendent lights IKEA $30.00 Peg Board $7.00 Old card file $8.00 Old Draftsmen light $20.00 So all told the whole re-do cost me under a 100 and a weeks worth of work. Here's some pics: |

I finally got around to taking a few photos.
18x22 garage (what the builders around here call an "oversize" garage!) The builder completely screwed up the insulation between the garage and the 2nd floor of the house, so the hardwood upstairs was basically exposed directly to outside temps. We pulled down the ceiling and spray-foamed everything. While the drywall was down, we ran power to 6 light fixtures and added 2 power outlets closer to the front of the garage. I went with muscle car colours - orange and green! The green paint is basically just tint into a clear base, so it took 7 coats of paint to cover the primer. The cabinets are custom built for the space, with a stainless steel top for the workbench. Due to the man door on the right, and the protrusion into the garage of the front house closet on the left, the cabinets couldn't be made any wider. Right now it is set up in the summer configuration, with room for bike storage and the bike tools. In the winter the bikes are stored in the basement, and the shelves are put up high so we can park my truck and the wife's car inside. Last edited by ertman; 07-01-2011 at 11:29 PM. |

Love the drawer/cabinet handles. Did you buy them that way or make them?

I am moving in to a house with a 2 car garage and I will have to come up with some clever storage ideas. I will post them and ask some questions soon.
