Anyone repaint an old SK metal box, (the one I have needs it bad) you know the darkish green, circa 1970 or earlier perhaps, is there a good rattle spray can match, vendor/color?
thanks

Those SK boxes have a hammered type paint on them.

(Not my picture, found it on google)

Rustoleum make a hammered finish paint in spray form and cans.

"Deep Green" seems to be a pretty close match.

+1 on the Rustolem hammer paint.

While not a perfect match for older S-K metal boxes with the "crinkle" finish paint, it's a very close match to the newer one's and it's really the closest match you'll get, old or new.

Thanks for posting I have an older box I'd like to restore. I'm curious if masking over the original SK emblem, or what is left of it, will look good when I'm done. I've cleaned all of the sockets and now I just need to get the box looking good.

I've looked at the Rustoleum Hammer Green paint as well but mine is definitely the crinkle finish and didn't want to spray it and then have regrets that I should have left well enough alone.

I don't know if I'd paint that box. Its an older one... the dark olive green wrinkle paint that S-K used on some of their hand-carry toolboxes. The decal is pretty far gone; if you repaint the box, you might need to get it made by a graphics shop and replace it with a reproduction decal.

I wouldn't touch that box as it would probably completely destroy the value it has.

This is why I post on here. I cleaned it as well as could so I'm probably going to leave it the way it is.

Thanks Again!!

If you decide to paint it, you can use Krylon Wrinkle Finish (comes in black and red and maybe other colors). If you need it in a different color, simply lay down the wrinkle coat, let it dry, then lightly build up your color coat.

The value of the box being about $3..... I'd hit it with black wrinkle finish

Oh no! That box might be worth $3 alone . . . but that set with the box as is, is worth much more in value in the eyes of legitimate collectors. They don't make 'em like that anymore. :)
